... and where to find them...

I find lots of experimental music in other styles on LimeWire but it's hard to find metal things there. I like bands as Ved buens ende, dødheimsgard, arcturus(actually only the 2nd album), maudlin of the well, fear of god, crisis has some cool vocals... hmmm, I checked out acts magdalena at mp3.com yesterday which seems quite cool... is it any chance Peccatum's latest album could be something for this poor gal? I hate listening to music in the shops haha...
and if you know something that is in the vein of atrox, 3rd & the mortal or something i'd be interested in hearing it... so tell me tell me tell me... oh and not only metal, absolutely not! I've recently discovered stuff like Rasputina, Creatures, Azigza (find them at mp3.com), Collide (mp3.com as well)... interested in more like that... And Tim Buckley (yes, he was Jeff's father) is cool, lotsa strange vocals... fun!

Monika (the atrox wöman)

nah don't like them, too straightforward songs for my taste, don't like their refrains and stuff hehe

it's not that i cant stand verse/refrain songs - lots of my fave songs are built on this standard formula - but these particular two bands are nothing for me,,, too much marilyn manson/pain stuff going on there but thanks for your tip anyway

You can check Fleurety (maybe you already know them), The Dillinger Escape Plan, Solefald, Voivod (if you like Ved Buens Ende you'll love them), possibly In The Woods..., When (not metal, but they are the definition of the world experimental), Godspeed You Black Emperor are also very good, Aphrodisiac, Coil etc. You'll probably know most of these bands, as they are quite well-known in the scene but if I think anything else, I'll post again..

Different vocals:
Screaming Jay Hawkins: Kind of blues-like stuff and he has a weird vocal like his name implies.
People's choice: Basically a Phillysoul band, but they're definetly the funkiest band I've heard on Philidelphia International and one of them sing a bit like Screaming Jay Hawkins.
Bands/artists with good vocals:
Marvin Gaye - Just don't take anything newer than 1981! I'm not too big a fan of his 60's work either, but his 70's work is cool!
Isley Brothers - The same as with Marvin. Their "It's your thing" LP from '69 is pretty cool though! Ronald Isley has a really smooth and nice vocal!
Barry White - Always the man for some erotic music! I've heard a couple of songs of his from 1981 & 82 and they sucked!
Type O Negative!
Freddie Mercury's vocal on Queen's "Killer queen" is also really great! Gives me goosebumps! His vocal on "The show must go on" is also great!
Minnie Riperton - The best female singer EVER IMO!!! Enough said!
Suzi Jane Hokom - Truly a heavenly voice! You can hear that she progressed from her recordings with Lee Hazlewood in 1966/67 to the album she made with Virgil Warner in 1968. Her voice isn't that good on the stuff she did with Lee, but on "Lady bird" & "Summer wine" (which she also did with Lee) with Virgil Warner her voice is fantastic!
Patrice Rushen - Sometimes it sounds like she sings out of tune, but sometimes she strikes right to the bone! Some of her stuff is gross disco (and some are good disco), but some of her stuff is a bit more downbeat and calm. Stuff like "Where there is love", "Givin' it up is givin' up", "(She will) Take you down to love" & "Remind me".
I like Jeff Buckley's vocal better than his fathers, although I've grown tired of Jeff's music and I listen to Tim's music more than I listen to Jeff's, which isn't much though.
I don't know if this was stuff like that you were looking for? I don't think there's really any metal that has any interesting vocals, as it's usually just screaming, yelling & growling and I can't say that I find that interesting!

Hmm.. I suggest Candiria. They mix grindcore, blues, rap and funk into their sound. There's this new band on Century Media called Yakuza. I don't know how to describe their stuff but check them out.
:headbang:

You want to listen to the weirdest music ever check out the music that Mike Patton did. Faith No More, Fantomas, Mr.Bungle, Tomahawk etc

Yes, Kveldssanger, I have heard all those bands (and got albums by most of them) except Aphrodosiac and Coil, so I'll better check them out then, thanks

Al Bundy man (Board? you call yourself that???), yes, Screamin jay is a wildman hehehe, snorting and stuff, that's fun! Sounds like Tim Buckley has learned a few things from him hehe... I also checked out a woman named Yma Sumac because Tim recommended her (hehe) and she's cool, she sings these extremely high notes and then suddenly she sounds like hmmm satchmo... what was his real name again...? The "It's a Wonderful World"/trumpet guy you know...
Yes there ARE some cool singers in metal, I am one of them :) and I'd like to hear more music in the same vein as the band I sing in actually...

And yes Mike Patton is cool, I've got FNM, Tomahawk and Mr. Bungle albums... Candiria huh? I'll check em out, thanks

you'll don't be disappointed...

allright cool, thanks for the tips.

Sainkho is cool, I've got three of her albums... there's another tuvan woman called stepanida who's a bit similar. she has released something with the hulu project... don't remember the name...

yes diamanda rules, so funny with that party organ hahaha

I had Raging Romance with Secrecy years ago but I got tired of it and gave it away or something hehehe... but I'll check out Shelley Hirsch and... don't remember the name now hehe

Deinonychus and Esoteric. Both are concidered to be experimental doom acts. The vocals of marco kehren in deinonychus are some of the most painful I know about. Brilliant stuff.

be sure to check them at the link above 'cause they are really unlucky persons they are currently disbanded 'cause they don't find a record deal but apparently they have formed a new band with almost the same members...we'll see..

for shelley hirsch maybe it is really difficult to find her material 'cause she is really an underground artist!

i have her first cd that is one of the amazing vocals experience ever produced...

if you don't find it and interested i can make a copy of it and send to you

it is absolutely a must!

:D

I checked out Megace and it was cool, I couldn't listen to the mp3 excerpts, but I got the 2 songs from mp3.com and they were cool. Do you like Fear of God? Dawn's vocals are so damn ... hmmm... uhhh... intense and heart-rendering... uhh is that the right word...? can't bother to check the dictionary hehe

I'd agree with the Mike Patton recommendation. Anything by him is great.

James Plotkin has many projects with great experimentation. Phantomsmasher (formerly Atomsmasher), Khanate, OLD, etc.

Also . . . Today is the Day creates some of the most innovative metal this planet has ever known.
