So I've been playing around with my Single Rectifier using a TS7 as a boost and no matter what I do, the 5150 and Blackmore beat it out hands down, no contest. I bought the Recto hoping to be able to coax some of the Nevermore style tones out of it and just for having around the studio for some variety, but as it stands I don't think I can ever see myself using it for anything, because the 5150 and Blackmore do everything better than the Recto, save for maybe the clean channel, but even then, I don't think it's worth keeping a Recto for the clean channel.

Anyone got any tips for getting a tighter more focused sound out of this thing or do you think I should sell it? It'd be nice to keep around just to have because I don't know what I would really buy in it's place, and there have been so many great guitar sounds that have come from Rectos but I can't seem to get it to work...

Well, to be honest, I had the same problem with my Single Recto. It never did what I wanted, but that was solved when I got my 3channel Triple Rectifier.

For me personally, the Single Recto felt a bit lacking. The Dual and Triple Recto's sound a lot better as far as I am concerned. Of course this is just my opinion, but for me, the Single Recto never sounded like what I imagine a Rectifier to sound like.

But, the Triple on the other hand is a beast!

There is a clip I tracked with it. Sorry about the sloppy playing, I have no iso headphones yet, and my homestudio is still under construction so I had to track the guitars by standing next to the amp with my AKG K240 headphones, which are not that good when you need isolation.

But well, here we go. Mesa 3channel Triple Recto, stock tubes

Red channel, modern mode, bold, diodes

bass: 11
mid: 10
treble: 11

gain: 12
Presence: all the way down (yep, zero)

master volume: a bit over 9

Ibanez TS9

Gain: 9
Tone: 10
level: 12

To a Mesa Rectifier Standard 4X12" cab, Shure SM57, Focusrite Saffire PRO 26. The guitar was a Schecter Hellraiser C7 w. EMG 707's.

No EQ, just low pass filter at 12khz

Interesting... I thought that channel 2 on the Single Rectifiers was identical to the Dual and Triples when using the diode mode? Hmm, maybe I should try out one of the other Recto models... To be honest though, I'm not super impressed with that clip, I still MUCH prefer what I get out of my 5150 and ENGL, although that clip does sound much better than what I've coaxed out of my Single and I appreciate you posting it!

No prob mate! The sloppy playing makes the clip seem a lot looser and mushier, but in the end it comes down to the old apples and oranges scenario

Well, yeah, the second channel on the Single should sound a lot like the Red channel on a Dual/Triple, but if my ears are not totally tone deaf, I would say that the Dual/Triple sound different from the Single.

It's been a while since I had my Solo 50 though.

Yeah, it occurs to me that perhaps there is some difference between the single and dual/triple - I definitely would say go for a dual cuz they're without question the most used and are cheaper than triples (not to mention not as retardedly overpowered)
