Releases 2009!

I always post reviews of pretty much every concert I go to. The only problem is my good camera is broken. Hopefully my friend will bring his.

These are the bands I'm gonna see (all others will not be reviewed):

Apocalyptic Visions
Suidakra
Salome
Baroness probably
Boris
Pig Destroyer
Krallice
Wolves in the Throne Room
Neurosis
Zoroaster
Converge
you forgot

High on Fire
Mastodon
Nachtmystium
Toxic Holocaust is ok

Hah, yeah he forgot a lot but the lame thing about this fest is that I believe it's one day only so you can't see every band.

I did not forget them.

I'm not gonna see them. The bands are split up between 4 stages and a lot of them will be playing at the same time. I chose the ones I wanted to see and those are the ones I posted.

I won't be reviewing the other ones since I won't be seeing them. :)

I was HUGE into Mastodon when Remission came out. Remission and Leviathan were amazing records and I seriously felt Mastodon was onto something. Blood Mountain bored me to tears at first and I stopped liking the band, of recent I've spun it again and I like it alot. I think that 4 years ago I would have totally shat on Crack The Skye...

However this has the potential of being my AOTY. I'm quite shocked haha!

yeh Remission and Leviathan are probably the height of their output. i was disappointed in blood mountain at first but grew to really like it. reading some interviews and crap i was ready for Crack the Skye to be mellow, but maybe not THIS mellow! heh. its pretty rockin though, its already growing on me on the second spin.

I seriously think this might be my favorite Mastodon record haha. It lacks the balls of the first 2, but it's so powerful. The post rock influences really shine through moreso on this album but I also hear lotsa Sabbath/Sleep influences. So spacey and awesome.

have you heard the Lifesblood EP? it came before Remission and its definitely more brutal and chaotic, theyve been on a pretty straight progression really. im definitely diggin this new one more with each listen, but i dont think they'll ever top the first two albums for me.

I'm gonna download this Suidakra album, so it better be good or it's going to ruin the damn concert in a few weeks. Most of the time I find that if an album is average, I end up liking it a lot more if I see the songs live before I hear the album. Then I listen to the album and I'm like "ah, I remember this part"
Eventually I realize that the album is mediocre but I still listen for nostalgia's sake. Some sort of emotional connection or something. Anyways for some reason I have a feeling this album will be mediocre :err:

From the Wintersun homepage:

All Wintersun shows cancelled

There has come again unexpected problems with technology, which will make finishing the "Time" album even more harder than it has been. Which will delay it even more. There´s also some personal problems concerning my apartment.

Because of all the problems, I have fallen under a serious amounts of stress, which is sometimes causing me "writer´s blocks". This album making is now turned into such a "risky business", that I have no choise, but to cancel Summerbreeze and Bloodstock.

The thing is, the album has to be done first, before we can play any shows. Playing just old songs after many years isn´t something we want to do and what probably no one wants to see.
After the album has been mixed, I need to mix again a "backuptrack livemix" (of the synths&orchestrations). Then we have to of course practise the new songs and arrange them into "live format" (especially mine and Teemu´s guitar parts). We also need to update our humble live gear.
All these arrangements take time, so we don´t want to risk it, that we might have to cancel the shows last minute. It must be done now and put finishing the album the number one priority. After the album is done, we will start booking shows again.

I know there´s lots of disappointed people and I have to apologize. But I hope that you´ll understand my decision under these circumstances. I have to put the album first and finish it before we play any shows. Thanks for listening!

Great news to hear on my 21st birthday. Made getting absolutely shitfaced that much easier. Im expecting Q4 2010 as the release period now (LITERALLY).

New Wolves In The Throne Room is TREMENDOUS!!!!

I was also fortunate to hear the new Cormorant album. They're an up and coming post-black band that takes everything cool from bands like Blut Aus Nord, Fen, and WITTR and mixes it with everything cool about bands like Mastodon and Intronaut.
