Releases 2009!

My bad. Caught in a frenzy of "oh shit aeonic doesn't gots new amorphis!" storm-festival. Yeah these days I'm in my own little bubble of legitimate metal surrounded by fucks who think pantera is the greatest band to grace the earth, so I get all excited when I hear a bit of news that may be relevant or interesting to skyfire fans. Ma bad.

No worries mah bredda. I heard the new Amorphis on myspace and I dug it, but the last 2 CDs weren't as good as Eclipse. The lack of growls on this new one is really disappointing. They're there, but not as frequent as I had hoped.

Side note, one of my favorite elitist douchebag sites a n u s.com likens newer Amorphis to Guns & Roses lol.

oh god. a n u s is terrible.

it ranks up there with hessian.

sorry aeonic - did not mean to imply that i wanted directions for teh interwebz. just that i was having a moment of incompetence.

though i am not sorry for calling your taste in guitarists terrible.

Mandatory forward thinking death metal ov teh future:

Yeah the lack of growls is a bit disappointing but all in all I think the disc is definitely better than 95% of shit that comes out these days anyway. It's growing on me with every listen. I'm also REALLY diggin Inevitable End. Keep the suggestions coming. For some reason last.fm has been sucking big dick with suggestions recently... :(

I shall be getting the new Devin this week or the following week. It is my first full length purchase of the year as it has been only the second release of the year that I felt like I should purchase immediately with my nonexistent income. The other release that I purchased this year was Kaki King's EP, Mexican Teenagers. It is pretty decent, different from anything she has released. Primarily electric guitar. There is one psychedelic track that is great.

One new release of the year to report is a split between Sleepmakeswaves and Tangled Thoughts of Leaving. Being a fan of Sleepmakeswaves, I was going to ignore the other band. I listened to their portion anyways and I enjoyed it. Tangled Thoughts of Leaving has a free download of their first album on their myspace somewhere, Tiny Fragments. A lot of wacky piano in some sweet chaos. At times, it reminds me of Dream Theater if they played with pure emotion. Not to offend any Dream Theater fans, as I am sort of one myself. Maybe it has more of a Liquid Tension Experiment vibe at times. Whatever, just check them out.

My thought on Rudess-era DT is that it is successful at being overly epic and progressive for its own good. However, the band has and never will be the same without Moore. Dude straight up knows how to write good songs.

I finally checked out the new Wolves In The Throne Room and Old Man's Child releases. I really like the atmosphere in Black Cascade. After one run of the new Old Man's Child, like a lot of new albums, it kind of drifted by. Some moments caught my ear, but I am sure that I will enjoy it more on the second run. My main complaint is that it really does not sound uniquely like Peter Wildoer. Maybe that will change on the second listen also.

I listened to it again and the drumming is a real disappointment. I was expecting some heavy Wildoer influence and it just sounds like a great drummer. On In Defiance Of Existence, you can tell that Barker put his touch on everything.

haha fair enough. Idk bro, but Old Mans Child to me is a textbook case of what not to do in black metal. I hate Nick Barker so much! However for the sake of objective listening I will check out the new CD!
