greetings.

a bit of background i belive in order. 22 years old, born in Kiev, Ukraine, USSR. living in Brooklyn, NewYork, USA since 1996.

first got into metal at about age 12. my first bands were Metallica, then Nirvana, Slayer and Sepultura ... then moved to USA ... Pantera, Fear Factory, Zombie, Manson, Soulfly, Korn, Deftones, Paradise Lost, Nightwish, Rammstein

and that was about the time when i got corrupted and started listening to electronic music :) i went on that binge for a few years hardly listening to any metal at all. but the supply of electronic music was not infinite and my appetite for music is :) so now i am looking at metal again.

artists i have discovered in my post-electronic days include:

Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Tristania, Samael, Tiamat, Therion, My Dying Bride, The Sins of thy Beloved, Within Temptation.

frankly i am not all that much into black/death metal its just thats what i have been totally neglecting before so i am discovering more of it now.

my favorite metal artists i would have to say are:

paradise lost
fear factory
rammstein

my favorite artists from other musical genres:

vnv nation
assemblage 23
mesh
astral projection
x-dream
wizzy noise
psysex
converter
prodigy
crystal method
pixies
depeche mode
apoptygma berzerk
ladytron
hocico
feindflug
covenant

etc ...

looking for any good sh1t :)

pick up any of these albums and i promise they wont dissapoint!

extol- undecieved
enslaved- below the lights
deeds of flesh- reduced to ashes
psypheria- embrace the mutation
cephalic carnage- lucid interval
immolation- unholy cult
nile- in their darkened shrines
nevermore- enemies of reality
thyrfing- vansinesvisor *or* urkraft
einherjer- blot
susperia- predominance
apocalyptica- unholy cult

i tried to steer clear of the "brutal" DM thing and go for a bit darker and somewhat more melodic sound. i hope this helps

if u like fear factory you'd like Meshuggah!!!

my advise is:
start listening to old death metal bands like Death and Morbid Angel
try swedish melodic death metal too - bands like In flames, At the gates, Amon amarth, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity...

I got sent a song by In Extremo.. can't remember what it's called now. Was an instrumental. Shall have to check them out.

Id stay away from power metal- it doesnt fit your interests.

For a electronic influenceTry Arcturus, Ulver, Tidfall, Pain, Ram-zet, Ministry, and oceans, skinny puppy, wumpscut, kovenant, hell try neurosis too, youll like them

Metalwise Testament, Strapping young lad, and devin townsend, enslaved, isis, katatonia, vader, mr bungle, crowbar, eyehategod well damn there are alot of bands to list.

Nonmetal with a metal kick- try Cave in, and Anathema.

Oh and do you like your native band Nokturnal Mortum- im a big fan.

thanx a lot, will be trying some of those.

actually l love at the gates :)

i generally prefer newer stuff to old, i find older stuff too predictable. there are exceptions of course, like i think sepultura was always ahead of its time all the way up to the roots cd.

zhora, if you are a big fan of electronic music, melodic metal fit your interests: power metal, progressive metal, melodic-death metal.
You shoud stay away from plain death metal.

In Extremo kicks ass and are leagues ahead of Rammstein.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ffanatic again.
Beat me to it. As a matter of fact, a lot of you guys mentioned good stuff.

Zhora, try Falconer for power metal as well.

Also, check out Demons & Wizards: side project of Hansi from Blind Guardian and Schaffer from Iced Earth.

Last, do check out pretty much everything mentioned here. For the most part, short of Maudlin of the Well which is an awsome band, they are all accessible.
