I'm trying to get this specific reverse effect applied here on the lead vocals at 1:44 in the video. I get something cool but not exactly the same, I think I miss something. Is there a trick you could share?
Typically one way to do it is to take the vocal section that you want the effect on and reverse it, then print a reverb on the reversed vocal and then reverse the vocal and verb again to go in the right direction. The verb then leads into the vocal giving it the poltergeist effect. gl
Duplicate track (stereo preferred), reverse syllable, apply a reverb, reverse entire region again, line up with original, fade out as main vocal comes in.
If you're using Reaper, you could just use ReaVerb. I've only ever done it with the built-in reverb generator, but you should be able to take any impulse you want and have the plugin handle all your reversing.
When applying the verb to the reversed word/syllable, make sure you leave a good 'verb tail on it.
That way, when you flip the word/syllable back to normal, you have plenty of info to crescendo the reverse word in.
