I don't like Vinnie's voice on Eternity. I actually think it's pretty bad on most of the songs. It's gotten better with every release though.

And do to me whatever you want, but I loved Darren's vocals too. Unlike Vinnie's, those can be called unique. And I think they really fit whatever Anathema was doing at that time.

At the moment i imagine Darren singing Temporary Peace or One last goodbye

I definetly like to hear this, hehe.

Cheers *growlingonelastgoodbye* Morpheus

I like the lads voice he's done well...result etc

its a bit odd to think that someone can't sing a song with real feeling cos they did'nt write the lyrics. Back in the day songwriters did the lyrics and singers sang 'em.

I mean if you heard irving berlin sing "white christmas" would it be as good as hearing someone like sinatra or billie holiday do it just cos he wrote it??

Yes of course that is something silly to imagine. Yet try to imagine Vinnie singing on Serenades or Pentecost III...

We heard him sing Sleepless, and no, that's not something most of us would like to hear.

Times changed, so did Anathema. Vinnie does the vocals pretty well nowadays, Darren used to do them well in the past.

And after all, he's from Manchester, isn't he? And he and Becks have got the same hairdresser, right?
:yell: :yuk:

liam is a very good singer in a very good band. thats why they have sold millions of albums.

i have asked mega to remove me post about oasis/anathema comparisons in case someone takes it the wrong way.

Í agree with it, everyone has his own period in Anathema's existence. It was just a thought which i found somehow funny, because style is so different.

As for the thing with Oasis, hmmm, well, i actually like only few of their songs, never really thought about them. But what i heard in daily press is not what i like about a band. They had been more in press cause of some quarrels with Blur (!?) methinks than with their music. I heard in the past, they wanted to get bigger than the beatles, and it seems as if they tried to do this with the same devices. Please correct me if this isn't true, because i'm not really into them, maybe its just a delusion from press or whatever, but this wouldn't be my opinion to make music; to outmatch another band or to replace them, or whatever, i hope you understand what i mean and not get it wrong.

Cheers Morpheus

P.S.: Only re- connect (a very good song imo) and leave no trace, interesting........

;)

Big record labels, publicists etc etc etc.. it's a lot more than just being judged on your music. We all know this eh? Didn't Robbie Williams do Eternity?

Oasis have sold millions of albums because they were there at the right time. People somewhat concentrate more on their image than on their musical efforts, and I fear that what counts today. Britney Spears and hell knows what other crap sells well, but definitely not because they are great musicians.
This whole music business sucks:(
It's unbelievable how many bands have signed with labels, and so labels don't push bands as it was some years ago. They get less money for recording, promotion, etc. And most bookers simply such as well.
People look for image rather than quality. Labels tell bands nowadays: 'Yeah, your demo is okay, but you'd need a different image to be successful' - thanx, but it's become almost unbearable.
Magazines get tons and tons of records every week, and most of it is not really good, even if you try to be really fair and try to respect every musician's efforts...
:( ... okay, I know, just my opinion...

still... many bands quit although they were pretty good, but they didn't get enough support, and I just think that's crap. And the labels pretty much only care about bands that sell well... e.g. Nuclear Blast - they have signed everything - some okay bands though - I guess they themselves don't even know anymore how many bands they've got---
and I barely buy CDs anyway...

Yeah, it's really difficult to find a CD in nowdays with unique and fresh music. Most times i hear a new song i can imagine how the refrain will follow etc. I start to believe that everything has been played in a way, most melodies today are just recycled from the music of '70's...
But there are of course some exceptions...;)

Well if they only quit because they relied on a label for support than thats pretty shit. There are loads of ways to get your music out there these days. Its easier than ever before now with MP3s and that. The problem is that most bands jump at the chance to sign to any label and dont know a thing about how it all works. I'd love to see more bands set up their own labels and that and get networking with other bands but I know so many musicians who are more interested in getting their photos in mags etc..
Im sticking to me guns anyway:rolleyes:

THe guys from Pro-Pain said in an interview that there should be something like a musicians' union, an organisation run by musicians for musicians to make sure that they won't get fleeced by labels, bookers, etc. Like experienced bands helping younger bands out, especially with reg ard to contracts and stuff. Maybe that would be a good idea.
