THe guys from Pro-Pain said in an interview that there should be something like a musicians' union, an organisation run by musicians for musicians to make sure that they won't get fleeced by labels, bookers, etc. Like experienced bands helping younger bands out, especially with reg ard to contracts and stuff. Maybe that would be a good idea.
In Finland we have that kind of thing. Link

There is a Musician Union already and music lawyers and shit like that. Bands should just learn the basics themselves so they actually know what they want from a label and not have to rely on other people.

Yeah that's true but like you said you must learn by yourself so at the beginning you don't know nothing 'bout music business. To have such a structure to help you could avoid getting fucked by a label, a promoter etc couldn't it ? Well that's my own opinion but i would really appreciate such a structure here in France to teach me 'the basics'.

Hm,
I'm just curious guys, what actually is to be fucked by a label...
To get signed, to release an album, and then never to get any profits from it?
This could happen if you sign for one album, but if you sign for 2 you can fuck the label too??

I didnt say you have to learn everything by yourself but its a good idea to find out the basics. Half a brain is all that is required, honestly! Email me for some basics if you want:confused: I'm not dead clever but I can lift heavy things:lol:

For instance I was thinking about this kind of things :
You sign on a label which promises you great things and then you end up having almost no promotion for you record ...

Thank you very much for the help , I'll mail you if I need ;)
We still got to find an affordable studio before that  (and good sound too ... and not 500 kilometers away from Paris  )

what I was referring to is that labels have to take care of the promotion, no band handle that themselves, co-operation with mags, stations, etc - except those major labels, they send some money and that's it. And if the booker doesn't work hard for you and tries to arrange profitable gigs, you're stuck, and that's stuff that bands can's work out themselves...
Why do MFN still co-operate with Zomba by the way??? They only take care of the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears...
