Rock Harvest

It's not even that. Fans shouldn't give a shit about the behind the scenes politics and problems or decisions. The business bullshit should stay behind closed doors.

Well, yeah, I guess I have an opinion on this as a member of a band as well as someone who has booked shows throughout the years, and have helped with more recent shows and festivals. But I see your point.

That being said, I think most fans though can see the forest through the trees. Let's be honest here.

I'm actually going to agree with Jason here. I'm a fan and I do care why a band drops off a bill. I want to know if the band is being selfish, the promotor isn't living up to his promises, etc. It's human nature. You get upset and want to know where to direct the anger and frustration.

I'm actually a little surprised to see you taking this stance. Awareness is never a bad thing.

No it shouldn't. Not at all.
Agreed. Bands don't need to go out of their way to absolutely trash promoters, but in the case of a promoter truly fucking up, bands being open about it prevents the next Jack Koshick from happening (or at least from doing as much damage as he did). Likewise, promoters should openly point out when bands fail to meet their obligations to keep their own credibility intact and help fans understand what happened. None of it needs to be personal, but this is the internet age - rumors are going to make their way around regardless, you may as well just tell the truth up front and be done with it.

Exactly, there are ways to be honest and upfront with your audience without burning bridges. I mentioned earlier that good will is not an obligation, but it can be good business (shit, even the biggest corporations in the world have a good will expense on their balance sheets).

Would you go so far to say the festival is now a "farcry" from what it initially was meant to be?

I doubt Ashes will cancel, since the charity appears to be for police

That is if the "charity" is in fact real. The website really gives no indication what it is for or where it goes, not to mention the police up there have never heard of this charity. Seems a little ironic that the police in that area have never heard of a charity benefiting police. According to the officer that works in the police outreach department of that precinct (who deals with charities) he nor anyone in his office had ever heard of this. Neither did another precinct up there. He also thought that it was particular odd since they had just recently had an officer killed.

I also noted the reference to the organizers being police officers being affected by the furloughs. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that federal law enforcement is always exempt from furloughs, and local law enforcement would have been unaffected by federal furloughs... there's a lot of stuff that isn't adding up, besides their balance sheet.

It certainly seems that way. I just can't figure out how the government shutdown can cause all of this.

I haven't read every post, so maybe someone already said it, but I will say without dropping any names or pointing fingers that 80% of the band on that line-up list will NOT be there.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but lets hope they get thier shit together next year (which, given these folks reputation, we'll get a list of awesome bands 5x the length of ProgPower with the end result being a gathering of 20 patrons with 2 National Acts and 30 locals.)

That public letter to Tarja is a great example of you being right. Also all of the insanity spouted by Tolkki over the years.
Do you really think that Timo Tolkki's rantings are an intelligent counter-argument to the idea that bands and promoters should be open and honest when things go wrong?

And since anecdotal evidence is apparently a valuable argument - would you not agree that Glenn's honesty in situations like Arcturus, Dream Evil, Reinxeed, etc. have garnered him a tremendous amount of good will and been productive? Would you have rather attributed Dream Evil's cancellation to the Magic Concert Gremlin than know that they screwed up?

I had no idea what you were even talking about with this so I looked it up. Considering that the band is bigger than ever now, yes it's a great example of me being right and you being wrong.
