Sanctuary reforming?

What planet do these albums stand up to albums like 'Master of Puppets' and 'Number of the Beast'? It can be agrued that these albums have not been around as long still you can compare the status of them 1-15 years in and they were still more stellar releases than 'Imaginations' and god knows 'Parallels'. Not going on option here, all great albums but facts are facts.

You seem intent on arguing that your opinion is fact. Anyway, in my world those albums stand up to Master of Puppets and Number of the Beast.

Master of Puppets is a great album, I'd still rather listen to Imaginations from the Other Side or to be back on topic a little, Into the Mirror Black. Number of the Beast is a great album too, but in my opinion the weaker than the two Maiden albums that preceded it.

that is what i said, Metallica lost their way. it ended when they did a video for one going against their stand. but that video was 7 minutes long and challenged MTV's format.
How so?

i give them 4 albums.
That's fair. The first and the fourth don't really do much for me.

also, to single out and blame Metallica for suing their fans is a cop out. yes, lars handled it poorly but he was speaking for all musicians and just didn't do it well.
I don't think it's a cop out at all. It's more accurately the reality. And it really speaks to their integrity. Lars handled that as Lars handles most things... like an ass.

metallica were an important band in the history of heavy metal.
Being important and deserving of respect can be two very different things. Senators are important people, in the grand scheme of things. Do I respect them? Not most of them.

You could easily say the same thing for metal that came out in the 80's. Pretty much all hair metal sounded the same, pretty much all glam sounded the same, death metal, thrash metal, etc... if you took out the vocals. Put Laaz Rockit, Defiance and Dark Angel together, without vocals. Put Kreator, Destruction, and Sodom together, without vocals. Poison, Warrant, and Ratt. I can go on and on. You fail to make a point here at all.

i personally can tell a difference in all those bands. Laaz Rockit sounds nothing like Dark Angel, plus Ratt sounds nothing like Poison. so maybe those are just bad examples, but i see what you are saying.

i am talking about production and tones. in the 80's and even into the 90's bands had producers who helped them get specific tones and sounds for their music. i recall when everyone wanted to replicate AT THE GATES sound, but we all came to find out they had a special modification or something so it couldn't truly be replicated. it's that kind of stuff. music and production had personality and wasn't so stale. sure it sounds amazing now, as being in a band myself i understand, but it doesn't make it a good thing for music as a whole i don't think.

i mean really listen to a Mutt Lange production. there is a reason why Shania Twain records sound JUST like Def Leppard albums. which up until recently i have never heard truly replicated until the new Candy Lixx album. Mutt Lange like so many amazing producers had their own vibe and that is getting lost now.

so we can agree to disagree from here on out because we are going in circles and unless i am on a tricycle collecting a beer each lap its a waste of time.

I cannot believe that this question would be asked by anyone.
Well, if it's a stupid question, than answering it should be relatively easy. Please go ahead and do so.

Goddamn are you serious? I probably dislike Metallica more than anyone here, actually hate the band but cannot denied what they did. It is just f#*ckin stupid to suggest they did nothing for metal.
Come now... let's keep the conversation civil. No need for insults and f-bombs. As I requested, please explain what they did for Metal.

Zod dude you must still be trapped in the Phantom Zone.
Wouldn't be the first time someone suggested as much. Let's face it, if you want the son of Jorel to kneel before you, you need to think outside the box.

And as for the albums you listed, well I'm personally not going on option one can easily see what these "classics" bands and albums have achieved. Well maybe not going on what I read here.
Sorry Bro... I'm not following you here.

really? again? a 7+ minute music video, which i think was longer originally because it had an intro played on the hour of every hour, kind of like MJ's Thriller. this video completely shattered the myth of a single once again, just as MJ, but this time with THRASH METAL. because as we all know thrash metal was totally in regular rotation on MTV in 1989. hahaha.

i am beating a dead horse, because if you don't get it you never will, so i will stop.

Being important and deserving of respect can be two very different things. Senators are important people, in the grand scheme of things. Do I respect them? Not most of them.

i didn't say i respect them as people, just as the band Metallica and what they did for the genre and their first 4 albums. just as i respect the goverment as an entity, but i certainly do not respect individual senators who are jackasses.

I pretty much agree with everything you just said here. If this guy actually wants anyone visiting his table in the vendors area this year at PP, he should learn some civility and humility. He shouldn't kiss anyone's ass, but goddamn, the holier than thou and insulting attitude is going to cause him to ship back a lot of his merch this year that he wouldn't have necessarily had to ship back without all of this.

Brent swings and OUT OF THE BALLPARK IT GOES!! Brent for the win!!

I was just gonna say the same exact thing.

Show me how Rhapsody and Kamelot sound the same, and I'll buy you a 6-pack next time I'm in Atlanta.

i like miller lite, so i will get cracking on my thesis.

it shouldn't be too hard considering Sascha Paeth produces them both. hahaha. but give me time, i will gather my evidence.

 hahahaha if I lose, at least you like some cheap beer. I was worried I was gonna have to buy some Dogfish Head Fort or something...

Oh wait... why would I worry about it? You're not winning this one!

And I'm not just guessing here, I know this from firsthand experience. Selling for Lance at the Nightmare table every year has taught me a lot in this sense. If you piss someone off or don't treat them like you want their business, they will NOT buy from you. Ask a certain other vendor on here, who has burned several bridges in the past with people at PP. One particular example:

*hands vendor list of cds*
Vendor: "I don't have time to do your shopping for you."
*walks away from vendor*

I don't remember who it was that had this experience with them but it's funny nonetheless, and proves a point.

Rhapsody and Kamelot don't really sound alike but I do see his point...there aren't all that many bands out there right now who, when listening to a song by them that you don't know, you can tell who it is within the first 15 seconds just by tone and style. Lots of generic stuff and cloning going on these days, but that's not specific to just metal.

Okay, I'll agree with you to some extent... But he asked "Take bands such as this and that, remove the vocalist and tell me if you can tell the difference."

Well, if I remove Kahn and Fabio Lione I can still clearly tell the difference.

That's very true, the point I'm trying to make is that you can experience that within any decade of metal, or even any decade of modern music. To just pigeonhole anything past the 80s, that's completely unfair and is fabricated to try and make his non-existing point.

Well, you actually made my point. How did a 7 minute video change the world when we already had one twice that long?

i am beating a dead horse, because if you don't get it you never will, so i will stop.
Cool.

oh, i don't know maybe because it was from a THRASH METAL band and not the king of pop this time?

looking back it seems to be Metallica is looked at with this bigger than god status, but they weren't always there and it was moments like this that helped them achieve that status now.

Wait, WMG blocks this on youtube for copyright reasons... weren't you the one bitching a little while ago about corporate greed and bullshit? OH THE IRONY!

haha, nice try but WMG blocks this because my label WAS distributed by Lumberjack Mordam Music Group (before WMG bankrupted them) which was partnered up WMG for some avenues of distribution, so they claimed ownership of LMMG bands and label's material despite that never being the case.

you can google the disputes as it ranges from Youtube to Myspace, etc.

BUT...nice try.
