While reading the "Rage" thread, I started thinking, who would be a band for the Sat. nite headlining slot that could not only keep the people there, but pretty much leave EVERYONE blown away?? I have been to the last three PPs and maybe there is no such band. Keep this within the realm of someone Glenn could conceivably get here.

I have two nominees:

1. Iced Fucking Earth (I'd reserve a Hearse to leave that show!!)
2. Savatage reunion (maybe this is just me, since I am a HUGE SavaFan!!)

Whattya think?? :heh:

To be honest, I think that the current Friday headliner could have held the spot better. But I understand the reasons for not doing it that way. I also think that AF is going to hold about 80% of the crowd that watched Primal Fear.

The bands you listed surely could do it too. Nevermore would have done it.

But people need to realize that the many people come because of the other bands on the roster, not just the headliners. So its always hard. Headliners have to have general popularity... be able to play a long set... have the energy... have the understanding that after 5 hours of going 'hey! hey! hey!' people's arms hurt ;). Etc.

Actually, Savatage gets a lot of mixed reviews from this particular crowd. Weapons of Mass Destruction (aka Savatage) played at ProgPower 5. While the crowd was fairly large, not everyone stuck around. More people that I would have thought quietly did their own thing.

But that's what happens every year. But I think those would be great headliners as well.

It's the same ticket price no matter how many people stay for the last band. I would stay till the end no matter what, because I just love the atmosphere of the ProgPower crowd, but from a monetary perspective, if the fest sells out it sells out, regardless of how many people remain for the end. I guarantee it'll still be enough to fill the pit.

Good point there. That is why I didn't understand why a Savatage reunion was pursued again. It was pretty much already done a few years ago and it looks like wasn't a big hit. I am glad it fell through this time and After Forever got chosen.

Iced Earth.
Helloween.
Savatage- WMD doesn't count because the first half of that set was hard to get through and lost a few people.
If you include returns I think Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray.

I don't like Savatage and was ready to leave early Friday, but I was shocked at how awesome it was.

Not that I'd particularly care for a Savatage reunion either.

First off you had a Jon Oliva's Pain set for the first part that was hard to get into since the cd was not released and we had not heard the songs before. Plus couple that with too many long piano intros to his songs. Now when the WOMD hit the stage that was different. They SLAYED!! :notworthy The reason Glenn is pursuing it again is because Zak was not able to be there to sing his material. What better deal to have all living members of Savatage get together for one night and kick ass.:kickass:

Boy - Talking about a dream come true!! I was disappointed that Johnny Middleton wasn't part of WOMD. I'm guessing if anyone could pull it off, it would be Glenn. He seemed to have a great repoire with Jon, especially during the set when Glenn had a big bottle of Jack and was taunting him!!

Peace,

Dude both of those would freakin rock!
I'm a huge fan of both bands. I'm not going to say another band I think would be good, Don't wanna get yelled at again lol.

Never got into Savatage. They always seemed to be on stand by in the TB area when support groups dropped out for whatever reason. They did that 2 or 3 times at concerts I saw in the 80s. They never really blew me away.
