say something about ... yourself!

I know what you're saying Max, but the opinions of people buying the product would be more about the music...or at least I would hope so.

If the guy likes his logo, then I really don't see what the big deal is. As far as everyone criticizing him for his logo, that's fine and their opinion, but telling him to get rid of it before going to press is kind of a stretch, especially since I haven't seen many of their albums in my local music store.

Ok, I think you guys are getting all out of whack here. Just please first realize this:

A: I do full time graphic design plus freelance work on the side. You can go to any Borders book store and find my work. Hit up Amazon and see my stuff.
B: I am also a musician.

I was merely making a comment about the artwork, which is fantastic and the fact that the logo really lowers an otherwise amazing piece. For the money, time and effort spent on that, a bit more to get a nice logo would have lifted the whole piece.
My main issue was his comments about the fact that he said he didn't know where to find anyone who could help with the logo. At such time I pointed out that we have an ART thread here where many talented people post AND that Travis Smith has a forum here with lots of talented people. There are also many websites where you could easily find people to help for little or no money.
Has nothing to do with his music or me thinking no one would buy it because of the logo. He went 98% of the way, go the extra 2 and hit the home run.

Not looking to argue or ruffle your feathers.

Well, let's see. Whom did I attack? No one. I'm not in any famous band or anything either, hence, I'm not giving advice NOR criticizing his choice of logo.

I just told the dude to do what he wants and ignore advice from people who obviously haven't released many albums...at least albums that went anywhere. Is Neal in some underground band that has a worldwide mass following or something? I wasn't insulting anyone, just reminding the guy that HE'S the one putting out the album, not anyone else. If Warrel were to say something, then I'd probably say it's a pretty good idea to listen to Warrel Dane because, well, he's been with us for over 20 years and knows what he's talking about. But people who have no claim to fame or have never even played in a professional band before shouldn't give advice to those who actually are doing something. Just my $0.02

That said, I don't disagree with what you two are saying...the logo does stand out a bit, but I'm not going to tell the guy it looks like shit, when truthfully it doesn't. But then again, IMO (and I'm not giving advice, just stating my opinion) I think the artwork is a little more death/prog-ish than the kind of thrash metal they play.

But you know what? Fucking good on the guy for having not only a good band, but decent songs and nice artwork. More power to him. I hope he prints this album just like it is and gets fucking rich.

Don't blame me. I made a single comment and everyone lost their shit.

I can't wait for the obligatory, "Well, your telling him not to take advice is in itself giving advice, and so YOU'RE A FUCKING HYPOCRITE!!!!!!111!!!!!!!LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!"

You're still doing it. How seriously do you take this forum? For a guy that claims to only come here for shits and giggles it sure seems like lots of things bother you.

edit: i'm totally baiting you btw, so you don't need to bother with accusing me of it because I'm already admitting it.

edit edit: How do they do it in ITALY?!

The word "bother" is relative. Does it bother you that I do this? I mean, to the point of responding, maybe, but not in real life. I'm sure you've never spoken my name to another person out loud. I know I have never mentioned any of you to anyone in real life regarding some trivial annoyance online...that would be pretty pathetic. Does it "bother" you enough to respond to something? Yes, but in a specific arena, such as a message board. You also have to remember, in real life we probably wouldn't be having this conversation, as it would just seem silly. Online is a bit different...you can exaggerate and play with things that normally you wouldn't think twice about. I don't come here to meet people, so it's moot.

Responding to your first edit: There's nothing to "bait", I guess. I say something, you guys respond. Then I respond to your response. This is how message boards work. If anyone was "baiting" anyone, I guess you could say I would be baiting YOU GUYS, since I started the whole hubbub with my single comment, and YOU responded to ME. See how that works? It only got this far because you let it. You could've just said, "hmm, whatever" and left it at that. I guess I offended so many sensibilities that it just had to be stricken down, though.

Responding to your second edit: Wow, haven't heard that one in quite a while. Do you also say things like, "I'm Rick James, bitch!"?

Your sarcasm actually makes a lot of sense, Eric...seriously.

It sounds ridiculous, but it's half true. Many in the music media are just beggars and hangers-on, especially webzines, and believe it or not there really are people out there with no musical ability whatsoever who review music as if they are the be-all-end-all experts.

This is just my opinion, but I personally think that people who review music should have a decent musical background. Otherwise, what makes them different from Blabbermouth comments? For instance, we got a review on Artificial by a webzine which was pretty damn good, a 6 out of 7, yet his comments were kinda strange. It was something along the lines of, "this band is not a black metal band, they don't sound black metal aside from some vocals, and I really don't like their style. Still it's a great album." WTF?

Of course, this leaves the subject wide open for a never-ending debate.
