Seated Or Standing At Opeth Shows?

Standing for sure!
When I was at the london gig, last arpil/march? some fat english bitch got annoyed by all the moshers.. So she started to attack people.. Grabbed me by the throaght.. Man, I got owned by a girl =\

I think a lot of people would prefer sitting, only in metal that is a very taboo thing to want, you know with all the "metal up your ass"-esque macho stuff going on. I think it would be fucking cool to sit in a theatre and watch Opeth play.

Both. I like to get drunk and punch women as much as the next guy, but sometimes I like to sitdown and smoke a blunt while watching Opeth play.

 yea, drunken woman-punching is a blast :saint:

Since I am admittedly an old geezer, I would MUCH prefer to sit, but I know that just ain't the way it is, so standing is cool :p. As for the moshing, it does look hella fun, but I'd just get my ass kicked and not be able to enjoy the show... It's great fun to watch though, from a safe vantage point that is. Say like up in the balcony. And add in the blunt Tangled mentions, and it's all good!!!

If Opeth were to play an entire gig all by themselfs.. 4 hour gig..
Then sitting and watching would be pretty damn nice!

Sitting there enjoying the entire Still Life album is indeed a great idea :)

^not really, your elbow has to be in someone's nose at the "each and everyone would die at my hands" part

The show I saw in Raleigh in 2006 with Devin Townsend opening (Dark Tranquility didn't make it that night, can't recall the reason), it was definitely a show much better enjoyed standing up. Lots of energy that night, and my neck was joyously super-sore the next day.

Christ. Sounds like a pretty shitty time, stuff like that can most certainly ruin a concert be it Opeth or not.

Yeah it was..
Devil Driver just finished playing, and man.. Did I look forward to Opeth..
She totally ruined my night.. Did I really come all the way from Holland for that.. :p

Shit. The way I look at fighting fat chicks is that they're more like men than women and should be fought as if they were a man, especially in the situation you found youself in, should've lumped her one.

how u people talk about metal shows like you have one every month or something makes me pretty jealous =[
im from israel most good bands never come here or come here once every 5 years =[

Much more into headbanging than moshing, especially when seeing Opeth, otherwise it is just a distraction from the music. If people want to go mental,I advise them to go and see the likes of Suicide Silence and Job For A Cowboy!

I definitely would prefer to stand on Opeth. At the very front, with Åkerfeldt and Axe in front of me! Hell yeah. It's a band that you should take off to and headbang and such, not sit in some silly chair and watch like it was a f***in' opera, cause it's not! >:D

That's not completely true. Hell, even Opeth will have been here twice in the last 3 years come August. There are also a lot of good local shows. But you're right in that it doesn't come close to certain cities in the States or in Europe.

STANDING : There are too many brutal parts in Opeth to just sit and watch. If that's what you want, focusing on the play, go buy their DVD. Standing makes the real ambiance, being in the crowd and just let yourself goes. But I understand perfectly those who prefer sit and watch, maybe you folks are older ;), kidding.

standing, as long as there are no kids who give a fuck about the show and just try to pick up a fight -

porcupine tree on the other hand was great but standing there with a lot of free space around you in the front row for 3h ... was some kind of boring....

so a good mix of standing there and be able to party when you feel you need to is perfect...

strangly the best show i atented was by bijelo dugme... every fucking one was so nice to you...i met peolpe in the middle of the gig, got to know new folks, you could drink your beer or dance like a maniac 5m from the band away etc.(was a big gig)

oh last gig i saw was R.A.T.M in berlin standing all the way... but the question is whats better:

with or without girlfriend?

at that gig i had to get her something to drink and later something to eat :(
was shit to wait while "gurilla radio" was playing....

PS: oh my god croatia failed big time today :(

Yes, some of us are :) *puts false teeth back in mouth* :p

While I don't want to mosh to Opeth I'd like the ability to nod along, so that's why standing for me.

In terms of moshing etc, Muse ftw. At the Sydney gig I was at the front and was pretty much horizontal the whole time. I left the gig with blood on my shirt and it wasn't mine.

Then later at night I slept in the back of my dad's wagon and someone threw a projectile through the window. But that's a separate story..
