Shit, my Fireface 400 died

Unbelievable! All the hype about RME reliability and customer support and it just burns (if it can't be repaired...) after 3 years. Didn't they gave you any reason why that happened? Bad use, voltage...?

I guess all products have a guarantee but I expected more from them. Keep it and maybe you can find a broken one for parts in the future.

*Crossing fingers*

It's just a circular reference:

- I asked Thomann, and they told me to contact the local representer
- I asked for a repair from the local representer, and he told me to ask RME
- I asked from RME, and they told me to ask the retailer (Thomann)

Why dont you try posting on the RME forum ? There are actually some RME employees in there, so you might get at least a reasonable answer.

When I had a problem with my Fireface (800), Synthax repaired it very quickly.
You can also send it to Thomann (within 3 years) and they will send it to Synthax but it's faster if you send it directly to Syntax.
Perhaps you got wrong what RME told you? They don't handle the warranty things, Synthax does.

Dude, shit happens. You can buy a 1000000€ car and it could still break after 3 years. Fact is they have a great customer service and most people have made good experiences with RME gear obviously.

Yes, I sent an email to Synthax, and this is the exact reply:

according to our factory, the warranty period for this unit expired in August 2009, which makes sense, since you purchased it in 2007... Thomann do currently offer an extended warranty period, but I don't know if they did so in 2007. If at all, you could ask Thomann for help.

And I also have a thread on the RME Forum.

It's been a month that my Presonus Firestudio has been at their factory. And a month prior to that for them to let me send it in. Because their drivers and firmware didn't work- THEIR PRODUCT- I had to cough up a little more than $150 since my warranty just ended. I would understand if it was something that saw physical use and resistance- but these things are delicate electronics that sit in rackmounts, not pogo-sticks or some shit lol

Write a letter, give them some of your hair- that's what I'm doing.

My fireface 400 had somewhen a problem with channel 3&4. Although there was no guarantee left, they repaired for free. It still works flawlessly today.

Should not be that hard to find out where problem is.
