here's a short clip...it's doubletracked through My Rectifier (boosted with 808).

the mic-position was as similar as possible, I'm pretty sure it was pretty much the same.
I did not try to get a perfect sound, but have just run the signal through the Rec with relatively standard Settings...so don't tell me the tone sucks, that's not what this is about ;)

Settings were (for those who wanna recreate with their cabs):
Red Modern (2ch Rc)
Tube Rectifier
MAster: 10:00
Pres: 12:30
Bass: 12:00
Mid: 11:00
Treb: 11:30
Gain: 1:30

I'm pretty sure which one most of you will like better (at least with these settings), so just tell me what you think which file belongs to which cab (pretty easy I think):

Cab A
Cab B

could supply the DI as well if desired

А is the Engl because of the nasty nasal character. I don't think B is the best representation of the Mesa, though, because of the harsh treble.

I am quite familiar with Mesa and vintage 30's but both examples here are not immediately recognizable to my ears...

I'd say A is Engl because it's the most non-Mesa of the two. ;-) correct?

A engl
B mesa

The difference is not THAT huge as I was expecting, are the cab dimensions more or less the same on both cabs? The mesa seems more scooped on the 1KHz area...

(I'm not going to cut my dick if I'm wrong, anyway ;) )

The Engl is the size of most other 4x12's at ~30" tall, whereas the Mesa Rectifier Standard cabs are ~33", which accounts for their oversized nature and, despite the small increase, makes 'em sound pretty different!
