Should I attempt to take a break from UM?

Should I reduce my posting significantly?

I post far too much. I spend far too much time on this board when I really could be doing productive things. Lately, I've considered stopping posting completely or at least cutting down significantly... I think the latter is more realistic. Maybe I could decide "NO MORE THAN 10 POSTS/2 HOURS A DAY AT UM" or something like that and try to stick to it. Good idea?

If you can avoid the temptation to jump into every moron thread on the GMD, that should go a long way towards limiting your addiction...I'd also suggest only checking the boards twice a day if you're serious about weaning yourself off UM.

ITs a rhetorical question if you are asking me.

If i may offer some advice-that I know will not be taken- dont post many threads of your own. when you create a thread, you have some ownership of it, and feel the need to see where it goes. Well I do anyway.

Go get laid and come back to make your own I Got Laid Last Night!!! thread.

When I feel I'm spending too much time on the computer I just turn off my DSL modem or the whole computer. Then I go back to work the next morning and sit in front of a computer with DSL connection for 8 to 9 hours straight. Sheesh.

Get a hobby, or a woman as NAD suggested. Hang out at bars or cafes. Read. Exercise. Find something to fill the void.

You're being silly. What sort of loser would do that?

As to Erik's question, I say post as often as you like. Posting online, is fairly similar to chatting with friends. And I'm pretty sure no one's ever said, "I need to stop talking to my friends so much."

True. Posting on an internet forum/chat room may be seen as reclusive behavior, but it really shouldn't be. If you spent 8 hours a day choking it to I-porn that might be a problem though.

Yah, but if you actually sat around talking to your friends for the better part of your day -- I mean we're talking... I don't even want to think of how many hours daily -- then I guess someone WOULD say "hey, maybe you should get around to doing, you know... SOMETHING else.

I think you're buying into the idea that certain activities are intrinsically superior. Life is short. Do what you enjoy doing. If chatting about the music you feel passionately about makes you happy, why should that be a bad thing? Would it better to go hiking, just to say you went hiking, if you hated every second of it. If you spent your days going to musuems, and taking art history classes, and talking to pretensious people about impressionists from varying eras while sipping cappucino, would anyone question the fullness of your life? No. Why should it be different seeking out new and interesting music?

Obviously, balance is important. There's a whole world out there, and things you've never experienced. But the bottom line is, do what you enjoy.

I would stop posting here if I didn't already:
1) read like a madman
2) do schoolwork
3) party
4) have too fucking many "in-person" friends (about 30% which I should dump)
5) exercise
6) do stuff

...so I guess I'm not sacrificing much by shooting the shit around here for an hour a day. I get to discover new music, read the funny posts/threads and talk to my homiezz. And about the girlfriend thing... fuck that, that's like getting off cocaine and starting fresh on heroin. You don't need some girl to take up 95% of your life, even if she does have big mams.

BTW I appreciate your advice, even speed's though "hanging out at bars and cafes" seems gayer than posting to UM all day to be honest :)
Oooh but it's fun to be the weird guy in the corner reading the Necronomicon drinking black coffee and eyeballing onlookers with scary glances. :D I used to practically live at this one coffee house, it was great fun hanging out down there. Bars it depends, as most are just good places to look at titties and get fucked up, but brew pubs and such are great because you can sit around, drink beer, talk shit, people watch, read a book, whatever.

I spend too much time on the computer, but since I get outdoors frequently, go to bars/pubs/etc., go to museums, read a lot, spend time with family/friends, etc. I'm okay with it. The only thing I wish I did more of was exercise and get motivated to get laid, but I'm too lazy to expend effort toward either.

I cut loose many a friend a few years ago, it's much better having about 6 friends I'm really close with as opposed to 30 I'm cool with when drunk, but don't like to sit in the same room with them very often. At least I wasn't a dick to any to get rid of them, I just made sure we drifted apart.

^^^^

yep, exactly. Now I have several friends I stay in touch with regularly and see often. And the others are very occasional friends. Still like them, still get along with them, we just don't have a ton in common anymore. Everyone's ok with that :)

Besides, I'd rather listen to music, waste time on the internet, and spend my "outside" drunk time picking up chicks so I can put it in their butts. There ya go, some more ammo lurch.

"I'm going to screw her in a very uncomfortable place."
"What, like in the back of a Volkswagon?"
