i dunno, for some reason i just don't think it fits them. it sounds as my dying groom said, artificial or something, BUT then on the other hand, as the swears arent over used it has more meaning than your average rap group swearing where its lost meaning.

i dont think its the biggest ever problem, or even much of a problem, i just want your views, thanks.

i don't know... they use them so rarely that i don't mind really... i think if they overused them all the time, it'd get kinda silly and start to detract from the music, but they really don't, and so it doesn't... it even adds something the few times they do use swear words, as you really get a sense of the intensity of feeling they mean to convey. if every song had a chorus like the 'so easy to see how fucking good it all could be' bit from don't tell a soul, then i think it'd get kinda 'okay, whatever, cut it out already'... but as it is, i can only think of three instances in the last three albums (this is, i admit, *very* off the top of my head, but)... deadhouse, black session, and don't tell a soul... so yeah, i guess that's my 2cents... to me, no big deal, and even a positive at times, due to their relative infrequency of use...

You said it elric, when they are used which isn't very often it adds something to it. Katatonia generally use them with taste and the music can speak a bit louder for it. I had something else i was going to say about it but thoughts and words are flying though my head, things have been better for me than what they currently are, anyway no i don't mind the use use of 'fuck' or whatever else as the infrequency of them do not detract from the music

I love the way they use swearing sparingly. So I agree with those above for the most part.

The song 'Passing Bird' has 'fucking' in the chorus, and when he says it, it's just so good. Really emotional and serious. You know he's not using it just because it's naughty. He's using it to really emphasise what he's saying.

I think they should keep them. With Katatonia's music being so mellow and restrained otherwise, there's a certain shock-value to the use of swearing, that really gives extra meaning and emphasis to the topic. A song or two on an album is enough, more than that would spoil it.

i think they should keep them out..
not that they disturb me, nor do they ruin the feelings of most of the lyrics, but i think if you put your mind into it, the feelings can be better described without them.
i think the swears somehow are just lack of words...
as elric said ;
"if every song had a chorus like the 'so easy to see how fucking good it all could be' bit from don't tell a soul, then i think it'd get kinda 'okay, whatever, cut it out already'"
i actually got realy mad at Jonas for just that line... it kind of ruins an otherwise exelent song i think...

but that´s just my opinion...

I'm half and half on this one.

The first time I heard it, I thought "Did he just say fucking?" At times when Katatonia sound so good, I feel they're beyond using swears in the lyrics. Like Hobo said in a way. Then I'm completely fine with it though. God knows how many times I use it a day without even realizing it. And, I also feel something extra is felt when you hear him using them because he hardly ever does. There's so many different ways to think of it, I guess what I voted says it all. It's no big issue to me.

Keep 'em if Renkse wants 'em.

Exactly. He writes the lyrics, therefore he decides what is apt.
I still think they don't need them though, in "Don't Tell..." it sounds really artificial. The effect of "fucking" wears out quickly imho, and there are enough words out there to describe what you want to say. On the other hand the swearing fits the urban atmosphere of LFDGD. I dunno. Lose them, but note that Deadhouse and Black Session are perfect :p

p.s. this is a stupid question

I don't mind them. He doesn't you them very often and when he does I think it works. When I first heard them I didn't like them because none of the bands a listen to swear really. But then I got use to them and now I think that they fit.
