It's one of my many favs but I just don't get it.

The lyrics are pretty clear: Eyes are of chrome, it is television.

Yup, Chrome is about people captivated by TV, uncaring for anything else (hence Jonas' brother hasn't finished the book, he's too enthralled watching the telly). 'Eyes are of chrome' refers to images that are reflected from the TV in darkness, just like chrome coating.

And Jonas himself clarified that the sound of Teargas IS a lighter. He was glad that people noticed. :)
