Should Mexican Immigrants Be Allowed Into The U.S Freely

I don't think we're really discussing the future illegal immigrants who will cross into the country in the future, but rather the ones that are already here. We can't just up and deport 12 million people, for as many reasons. There has to be some acceptable middle ground between punishment and assistance for these people. I am a strong proponent of penalizing illegal immigrants by fining them and then allowing them to apply for citizenship, or something to that effect.

Agreed. Just deporting them would be appallingly holocaust-like, not to mention ridiculously expensive.

Deporting all of them at once would just fuck things up. I agree with what others have said. Make the ones here legal, and make it easier for people who want to come here to come legally.

I have read that children of immigrants know English (or the dominant language of the home country) at a far greater rate than their parents.

Yes, exactly. I heard about a 2 year old boy from Iraq who lost an eye and came here and was fluent in English in 2-3 months.

Blah blah about the language.

It's not the simple fact that "they broke a law" that is of concern. The laws are there for a reason. We have to have border security and controlled immigration, especially in this day and age, and being neighbors with a country like Mexico, who are not be as technologically advanced in detecting threats and stopping their movement.

The law is fucked up, and I believe it was Cookiecutter who was explaining it better than me about it. These people whould go here in a legal fashion if they could in a easier way that allowed them to freely. The fact is they can't so have to sneak in which is not something positive for them because the said possibilities that are horrible disadvantages to their lives.

I think this is the most logical way to deal with the situation. Though I would not fine them, I think it is a great way for both sides to come together.
