simple question about DFHS

DFHS has TPC/16-bit features that can cut a 1,400MB kit down to 232MB and still sound great, not a noticeable quality change at all. It's a VST plug-in that you run in your host and route MIDI to.

What is TPC ? Is it something like DFD ?

btw IIRC savihost can make any vst compatible plugin standalone.

Ohhh god :OMG: ....Let me say this once. DON'T EVER ASK 006 WHAT TPC IS. What are you trying to do, get killed. :loco:

On that note TPC is an on the fly compression algo that TOONTRACKS came up with. In short it it limits the RAM hit on your computer. It is very very effective at doing so. Great stuff.

I'm not asking what is the quality of TPC audio.

My question is how many simultaneous voices can it play. How fast can it encode/decode.

Hahaha this is funny. I know 006 is going to get a kick out this. Well, about a month ago I was on a mission to figure this out myself. I was in the same position as you and tried asking around. Long story short me and 006 got in a INTERNET FIGHT that involved him punching me and me kicking him. We both ended up with community service.

O.k. I lied about the punch, kick, and service but most importantly I never really figure out what was behind the algo. I emailed ToonTracks about it and they never responded. I also would love to know what was going on behind the scene as well. Toontracks just updated TPC with a new release 2.0. If you find any info out let me know.

In the end it does not matter because one thing I know for sure is it works really really well. I am reading through my manual and it says with TPC 1.0 you get an average reduction of a factor of three. So figure 30% reduction possibly higher with 2.0.

oh shit man, it compresses the samples, so when dfhs loads them into ram, it uses less ram, that's all you need to know, case closed.
So you don't know.
Why am i asking ?
I'm not a Rockefeller - i dont have enough money to upgrade my cpu, ram and buy DFHS so i need to know how many samples can it play on my shitty Duron 1600 at a reasonable cpu hit for example 20%.

From that link i posted i can make an informed guess that if i used FLAC 1.1.2
on my 1600Mhz x 20% cpu it would give me ~17 sounds.

Because on 800Mhz x 100% cpu it gives 44 simultaneous sounds.

Hmm...now you got me lost.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way.

Mutant, why are you trying to figure out all this shit? Give me the specs to your PC right now, ram amount, cpu speed.
