SLAYER ... all fucking day

Okay so I've been a Slayer fan for 23 years and if I had to choose just one heavy metal band in some sort of elimination contest Slayer would indeed by the LAST to go. I'd even choose Slayer over Danzig, because while Danzig is my favoUrite band ever, technically Slayer are more metal than Danzig. They are my high point / calling card / water mark / what ever of metal, and likely always have been. This is just to begin prefacing what I'm about to reveal. And hey, I can feel this way about them with a clear conscience, because thanks to life without advertisements (fuck you TV, fuck you internet ads) or visiting heavy metal websites outside of RC, I don't ever see Heavy Metal News® so am thus shielded from all the sellout shit these dudes have done over the years (except my one drummer who wears his girlfriend's Slayer Vans sometimes, a harsh reminder of the outside world I shunned years ago), but seriously.....................................all these years later....................and after many attempts...................I must honestly say that.................Hell Awaits is not a very good album. Every time I listen to it, even during a beering such as tonight, and even after I get excited about the whole shebang, once I reach the end of AT DAWN THEY SLEEP, I start to think AND NOW I SLEEP until Hardening of the Arteries kicks in, because the rest of that shit is just filler, yo.

Sorry for the beer'd rambling. I'm just really nervous about Ken's date tonight.

His wife killed him

Anyway, back on topic....are you being serious? Because I think Slayer kinda sucks. If you're serious, I might be tempted to give them another go

hahaha

Slayer do not suck. This I have decreed! My first sentence up there was completely serious, because all these years later, I would call them my true longstanding #1 favoUrite heavy metal band.

The rest of that post was made up bullshit. EDIT: Except the Ken part. I'm honestly concerned!

EDITx2: No wait, I stand by all of that nonsense. I say this after the 3 beers wore off and everything!

EDITx3: Play this loud and enjoy the crap out of it:

Or don't, and listen to something else instead. Life is full of choices!

I love merely glimpsing at a post and knowing it was produced by beer

It is probably still my 5th favoUrite Slayer album to be honest.

Also I finally realized that Divine Intervention is only half good.

I had a lot of fun listening to a lot of Slayer over this weekend.

this thread prompted my own mini slayerfest saturday. i never was never really into Divine Intervention, so i gave it another try and it still seems subpar for Slayer. the production is kind of weird and muddled when it gets fast and there's not many interesting or memorable riffs.

i think South of Heaven loses a bit of steam later in the third quarter as well.

Seasons in the Abyss is fuckin solid front to back, hit after hit. edges out RiB for favorite.

havent listened to Hell Awaits in awhile, maybe tomorrow. rockin some Diabalos right now :loco:

Show No Mercy, Seasoning the Obese, er, Seasons in the abyss, and Reign in Blood are my top 3 (not that anyone fucking cares)

i think seasons in the abyss is a bad and tired album, not much better than divine intervention

if i listen to slayer nowadays it's gonna be either hell awaits or show no mercy

and i think hell awaits has at least one genuine filler track: "crypts of eternity" is pretty bad to be honest. it's like a patchwork of worse versions of the riffs from the rest of the album

EDIT: ^^^

Show No Mercy, Seasoning the Obese, er, Seasons in the abyss, and Reign in Blood are my top 3 (not that anyone fucking cares)
Late-era S.O.D. reference FTW!

Re: Divine Intervention: the drums during the first 28 seconds of this song are quite worthy of attention, even if most of this track is mehhh.
