slayers christ illusion

all slayer is essential i.m.o. some discs are better than others though.cant go wrong with all the classics! ofcourse if you dont care for slayer that much i wouldnt bother.

What the hell, I'll through a little gas on this firey thread. I haven't liked Slayer much since Hell Awaits. Reign in Blood through Seasons were okay, but I never could get into Rubin's production. One of the main things they always talk about is how Rubin took the EQ off of Tom's voice. And frankly, I liked it better before. To me Hell Awaits was a fantastic album (as were Haunting the Chapel and Show No Mercy). I was a Slayer freak back then. When Reign came out I was into it, but eventually it was their undoing, at least for me.

I've only heard snippets of the new one, but I long for the days of Kill Again, Necrophilliac, Chemical Warfare, and the Antichrist. Just my two cents. This will meet incredulous response no doubt, but they used to be waaaay more metal in my eyes.

No I dont need all that crap.
Hahahahaha Noob huh well considering I just really dont care for Slayer doesnt make me a noob, im sorry but I black metal way more than SLayer and besides to me Testament and Overkill were much better thrash bands and I rather listen to them. Tom arays voice is annoying. Like I said when i want my Slayer fix Ill listen to CI or RIB. I might check out SITA. I like actual music to my thrash and not just noise. Sorry.Considering Ive been around here two years longer than you doesnt really make me a noob.
Your a n00b not because of how long you've been on this site but because you think that having RIB and CI is all you need from Slayer, overlooking classics like HA and SOH, etc. which are all classic Slayer albums and far better than anything Overkill or Testament ever made. And having a preference for Black metal does not mean one cannot enjoy Slayer, hell Slayer's early albums are sometimes considered black metal and in fact are HIGHLY influential on the genre.

^ These are the only ones you really need. It's not like you're going to miss out on some fantastic Slayer you've never heard before by skipping the other albums. Bottom line: there's no reason to own all of Slayer's albums.
I agree you don't need to own all their albums, which is why I left off Live Undead and everything post 1994. I would consider SOH and SITA mandatory.

The only mandatory slayer album is hell awaits, that is their best effort imo

I listened to it and thought it was ok. To me, they became a bit monotonous after Seasons in the Abyss. They lost a great deal of diversity after that release and too many songs sounded too much alike. It wasn't "bad" per se' but I didn't enjoy their stuff after Seasons near as much as I had before.

why isn't slayer dead yet? They disgrace themselves almost as badly a modern metallica.

If you wanna compare the new Slayer with the new Metallica you either are def or just jumpin' on the bands bashing train. The new Slayer album isn't their masterpiece, but it's better than "God Hates Us All" and hell better than anything Metallica did after "Master of Puppets" !! (all in my humble opinion ofcourse that you all are supposed to be following  )

The new slayer does its job, keep the old fans and draw in the new fans so we can tour again. Kinda like Metallica at the same time but while Metallica is releasing crap, Slayer releases a pretty good album.
