Slipknot - Iowa tone question

-I thought this thread was about the Iowa album...
-The guitar tone slays on All Hope Is Gone IMO, and i'm not the only one to think so.

I'm not denying that, but for the mix of Psychosocial the guitars were terribly weak. As for the rest of the album, not at all

Really ? They sound the same all throughout the album to me (unless there are different tunings from one song to another but i don't remember anything like this for this specific album of theirs), and actually if i had to point out one song to show how good the guitars sound on this album, it would be that specific song :)

You're right. They don't sound near as bad as I remember. For some reason I was thinking it was way more squashed and thin

Phwoarh, listen to how hard the picking on the rhythm guitar track is. Now THAT'S guitar playing for metal. The single-note stuff on the verse riff has so much character as a result - sounds like the amp wants to come to life.

Left Behind guitar @ 1:55.....I would have thought they'd have gotten a better take of that riff, honestly. Assuming this was tracked digital....

Wow the SNR sound is so phasey and weird on that drum stem!!! strangeeeeeee...OH's and great, kick is right up the middle but how strange the snr is. i can't locate where it's coming from or rather, have difficulty doing so... hmmmm...

and ALA Corey's vox, that's TOTALLY the sound of a Pentron Tube Mic Mixer.... Which I just used on the new Abiotic record for vocals and I know this sound like the back of my hand. This old 50's tube unit has a VERY amazing distortion to it that just makes shit sit right in the mix.

Ross defo pushed it WAY harder than I thought... that sounds like the Pentron with the channel volume @ 10... I thought that sounded pretty awesome for the vox I was tracking at the time but didn't want the vocals to get too buried since this is Tech-Death we're talking about afterall...

I actually let the vocalist tweak the level to what he preferred and I did the last final adjustment which left us at around 8, out of 10, ahahaha...

Guitar Hero export?

No, actually. I downloaded these stems a couple months back along with the massive stem collection I already have. I think they're ripped from Rock Band to be honest but I'm not 100% sure.

I know. There's a few parts in these guitar tracks where even though they're on a schedule and they have 9 guys, I still feel some of the takes could have been a lot cleaner. Especially the part you're talking about. I feel there's some slop in there. More so a loss of timing at parts if you can hear it. However, on the actual final mix you can't hear or notice any of it.

Psychosocial tracks can get posted too. I'll post it in the other slipknot thread.

The pentron is def a box of magic tube goodness and for vocals it just pushes out all the emotion in a vocalist that much more. It is something I know neither I or Cj could live without now that we have one.
