slow down, guitars....

Ryan's video is the correct way to do it. Don't record things at half speed and pitch shift them around, that's retarded and sounds like shit. Just play it slower, then cut where the next note is supposed to start and slip it back. Go through the whole part until you've put it together. Make sure you leave like at least 15-20ms before each note for the pick attack or it will still sound like shit.

It's exactly the same procedure as in my slip editing tutorial for drums, when you play it slower, every guitar note is late so you just slip them back one at a time, just like fixing drums when the drummer is lagging behind the beat.

sick, yeah this is what i've been doing in situations where its needed.

thanks for the re-assurance dave. always love your stuff.
hey, I was wandering around this old post and actually I have a pretty flawless method I've been using to do exactly what you're talking about.

recording riffs in half time and speeding up to get 100% clean results.

for this method you'll have to not mind doing it in Fl Studio though.

okay so tempo is 200 bpm.
i mute all tracks and record the riff/parts of it in half time right along with a click track.
cut the riff so the sample wav is exactly and only what it should be in length. (so that you can shrink it to half length)

make sure the stretch checkbox is marked in the playlist window so that you can stretch the samples.

drag+stretch the sample down to half the lenth

now open the properties window for said sample in fl studio
go to the time stretch portion

and select tonal.

tonal seems to keep dynamics and texture of the guitar tone better than most of the options, however several other than resample do the same thing but end up sounding slightly different for whatever reason.

Simple I know, but it works good as fuck.
go check out my band, The Convalescence, [facebook.com/theconvalescence]

I recorded and produced everything. though my leveling skills at the time of last minute mixdown could have helped me out more.

im a big fan of yours though joey, your mixes always sound clean and flawless as fuck. soon I will accomplish the same.

Joey,

assuming you still have pro tools 9 or 8, record the guitar DI to a click with a tempo that they can play to, then change the tempo of the pro tools session to your desired tempo, activate elastic audio on that track and change track view to warp. select the whole region, right click, conform to tempo. works most of the time.
