Sludge

Mastodon is Progressive/Sludge

BLS is Sludge/Southern

High on Fire is Stoner/Doom

Isis is atmospheric Sludge

Neurosis is... a lot of things, and Sludge is one of them.

Take a lesson from metal archives, people, they're not idiots.

I like "Sludge", but generally that stuff that has the closest relationship to Doom.

Iron Money (were) a fucking ace band, imo, and their combination of Sabbathian vibes and Ward-esque drums, combined with a scuzzed up Motorhead attitude and BM vocals was pretty amazing. For the curious, try DLing their (killer) track, "Big Loader" from the Eponymous album.

Grief were also a pretty cool band, back in't day, iirc.

Crowbar are one of my fave bands of ALL TIME. Utter crushing despair on a level most funereal doom bands can only dream of.

Eyehategod can be amusing, although I don't particularly enjoy all their albums. Gets pretty samey.

I wouldn't call Electric Wizard sludge, but great band none the less.

The main problem is, that "Sludge", over many other doom affiliated sub-genres attracts more than its fair share of so-so, boring bands.

MA apparently, if you read the end of my post.

Metal Archives is no authority on anything. It is all submitted and edited by regular metalheads such as us.

Well I consider "metalhead" an almost disparaging term...so, yeah.

And hardly anyone on M-A knows anything about genres...

Hardly anybody knows anything about genres. You can argue genres till the end of time and it makes no difference. I rarely ever disagree with M-A except Wintersun which they put under melodic death metal for some reason.
