So how's the new Orphaned Land?

This disc hasn't left the cd player in my truck since I got it. I've probably spun it 15 times now and I'm loving every minute of it. I didn't think there was a chance in hell that OL would ever top Mabool, but I believe they've done it with this album! My god, the thing just flows like honey to my ears, near perfection. The production is FANTASTIC although some of the extreme metal fans may complain that the guitar riffs aren't heavy enough. I am loving it though, personally, and I would be shocked if this doesn't land in the #1 spot on my best of 2010 list.

I just picked it up. It sounds great. I don't think the production on Mabool was weak. Actually it was fantastic. The new one sounds good too. Wilson only mixed it. It was self-produced by the band according to the booklet, Iced Dog. I think "The Warrior" stands out the most on first listen.

Batman --

I think OrWarrior is fantastic ..... I liked Mabool, but I love this one even more. The writing is just over the top for me.

As far as the production -- I think its a bit on the dry side, but you know me when it comes to sound .... :)

The fact that its 80-min ling and proggy as hell put this one way over the top for me.... it could be in the Top 3 of the year in the end........

Started listening to this about 3 weeks ago and then went to the show in Chicago last week. I just cannot get enough of this CD. It is incredible from beginning to end!!!! I go from listening to it in the car on the way to work, to listening to the iPod during the day, back to the car, and then at home on the stereo at night.

If you don't own this, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!!!!!!

Orphaned Land deserves tons of credit for what they are doing with metal, but I just can't get into them. I've spun Mabool and OrWarrior a few times each ( and yes, I actually have store bought copies of both) and I hear interesting bits and pieces, but sitting through the discs have me nodding off in short time. The sad thing is, they were amazing live and I'm glad that I was at least a little familiar with the material, but the studio material just bores me.

Did anyone know that Orphaned Land played at South by SouthWest in Austin ??? I sure didn't, also Brainstorm played and so did Dillinger Escape Plan

I did actually. Also knew about Dillinger playing, but I must say I'm completely shocked that Brainstorm played. Anyone know how their reception was?

The reception was probably pretty terrible, if the audience was expecting a German power metal band!

EDIT: and while I'm -ing: it's too bad that the metal Brainstorm isn't in a position to stop the non-metal Brainstorm! Or, at least they can't very well argue that words can have ownership and should not be "borrowed" by others!

That makes more sense.

Yes, posted a question in the OL forum to find out how it went. Their set started real late based upon the SXSW schedule I saw online.

This is one of those albums (or rather, bands) you either get or you don't. Like already said, compared to Mabool, even larger and deeper, but a helluva album. It takes patience, but worth it, so if OL are a band you dig, this is top-notch.
