So now that I own a MAC...

...what should I do with it?

I bought it to check it out and see if I can get used to doing things with it, but I bought an older one... G4 450mhz... was told it was a dual 450, but alas, its not... but, for $50 I don't think its a bad deal...

Anyway, I don't see me running sessions on this anti-beast... the OS seems zippy enough, but it lags when it on the net sometimes... just general web browsing... I've only had it a day... its up to 10.4.11 which is as high as it can go... its got 1.62gb of ram, i know its a 2gb max but I'm less worried about maxing out the ram because the processor will be the bottle neck...

most of the software I'm finding wants OSX10.5 or higher...

in short... worth keeping? if so, what should I try doing with it? what Apps?

in case you didn't know, I'm a PC/PT guy... if that helps.

check the UB list to see what you can use on your mac List of universal binaries

download and get hacking your neighbors who haven't started using WPA Tutorial here - application here

and finally porn - X-hamster because mac's handle porn quite well by helping to reduce those spam sites that make you download dodgy flash players etc (because none are mac applications so your safe as fuck) - by the way xhamster rocks - im not implying its a spam site - its just a great site!

G4s are very old... and very slow for anything we are doing today. Keep in mind that the G4 chip is 10 years old now. I had a G4/450 when it was new and it seemed great - of course I was still using a lot of outboard gear in my sessions then, whereas I do almost everything in the box now.

You could use it as a secret hiding spot for your weed?

I don't smoke weed.

No.

I don't watch much porn these days... physical gratification is usually a phone call and a 10-20 minute drive away...

So you're saying I wasted $50? I was hoping I could do something useful with this rock... oh well... guess I'll just toy around with it and get used to the OS...

Thanks guys.

I'm drunk too:)

I drank a bottle of wine in a very short period of time, and then I went to a party down town ... and it sucked d*ck. Not duck, but d*ck. I love wine... yum.

Nice find, I still use my G4 and I love it. I upgraded it to 10.5 though. I'll admit it isnt the fastest machine, but if I'm efficient with my plugins it serves me well. My one is the slightly faster 1.25Ghz one though. I dont know how fast the 450Mhz one would be but welcome to the mac world!

god dam!! - the man is efficient at replying!

Yeah, i know what you mean... its kinda sluggish and fast at the same time... hard to explain... I'll probably end up picking up a used G5 or something soon... $800-$1000 is what I'm seeing them go for... :erk: ... $50 G4 ftw at the moment...

G4 isn't bad. It can handle basic PT operations and maximum track count without any problems. G5's aren't that expensive, I got mine on ebay for $390, has a lot of programs on it too.

For free apps, http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ if you have osx.

thanks... I'll have to check out ebay... i despise it, but if it can save me $500 or so, i'm all for it...

In other news, I can totally see why people fall in love with macs... I'm starting to get a chubby myself... don't think i'll ever go monogamous, but I could have two wives, i mean computer systems, right?

No, $50 is a crazy deal for a machine that went for $2499 new when it launched on August 31, 1999.

I still have many good memories of this machine and the case design is very practical, and timeless.

It seems pretty zippy at times and sluggish at others... so I'm torn... I've been installing apps on it for the last 3 hours... I'm burnt.

I'm really starting to dig this OS and whatnot... going to invest in a better machine in the next few months... Can't bring myself to ditch PCs completely, though...
