We need to find replacements that will stand the test of time.

Right on.

1. we need some bands that can release consistently good records with solid songs all around
2. that have some real rock star attitude ... not some average guys that just happen to play rock
3. and obviously they need to break into the mainstream on a huge level

I cannot for the life of me think of such a band in the last 10-15 years.

Maybe Linkin Park could get there somehow, but others like Korn, Pearl Jam and others .. while originally on a winning streak ... have proven to have no staying power.

Let's face it, with the advent of the Internet the whole rock star structure has changed. Today's youth does not need to listen to a record or a band over and over and get it drilled into their brain. they have so many choices to pick from ...

I should point out, tho, that even though this is turning out to be The Clash of The Seniors tour, seeing Maiden focus on their classic material is totally awesome.

Admit, we'd still see Maiden if Bruce sang in a Fear Of The Dark wheeze from a respirator. I wouldn't shed a tear if Maiden dropped the Paul era from their set forever, but it's still shaping up to be awesome. As far as replacements go, I don't think we need to revive the bloated beast of arena rock, but we are in desperate need of festivals not dependent on past their prime headliners...at least there's Progpower.

If every festival was the size of ProgPower, then life would be pretty good I reckon. You could focus on a particular genre, hold it in a nice auditorium, and have a good collection of fans come with similar focus. The equivalent of ProgPower for Black/Death metal would be great.

With that said, people like BIG festivals. Metal goes hand in hand with festivals like bread and butter. Look at Wacken - people flock to it like Mecca from all around the world, and it's not just for the bands.

Meh, I prefer small clubs to arenas. The only time I don't is for multiple bands that I'm not a huge fan of but one or two, so I can walk around drinking ridiculously expensive cheap beer all day while getting a massive sunburn.

That's not very cool at all. I'm seeing these bands in about a month's time, and I'm tempted to claim that every single one of these are better than Iron Maiden:

Chton
Mortiis
Lamented Souls
Amon Amarth
Morbid Angel
Taakeferd
Nebular Mystic
Gorelord
Horricane
Bloodthorn

That's pretty cool.

ok so who's going to the Motley Crue / Poison tour this summer?
I think the better question is... who isn't?

Actually, if I wasn't being protective of the memories I already have of Crue, I'd totally be going. I'm not really big on nostalgia acts. And the handful of performances I've caught by 80s acts have been disappointing. Given that the few times I've seen Crue live, they were amazing, I'd prefer to simply remember them that way, than see them as the AARP card holders.

never seen the Crue live ... probably that's why I would want to go. although you're right, the 18 year old chicks won't be there.

I only seen Vince Neil live some years ago in a small club in NYC. that was actually awesome.

True. However, whereas Crue shows once looked like a stripper convention, they now look like a MILF convention.

The cool thing about Crue is, they have so many classics, that there's not a moment during the show where the audience participation slows.

I saw 'em a few years back. Somewhere between 2005 and yesterday, anyway. Mick Mars is literally a walking zombie only able to play because of the 500mg of pure adrenaline he pumps into his blood stream before the show (I suspect anyway). Vince Neil struggles with the higher end vocals and standing up in general. Tommy Lee is exactly as you'd expect him; bottle of Jägermeister and tittie cam inclusive. Nikki Sixx is probably the best performer in the band these days. It was an enjoyable show, but they definitely are past their prime.

I'm considering Warrant in April.
