So when this place shuts down...

This forum encompasses recording within the metal community much more so than any other forum I frequent, so I'd really have no place to go to get what I get here. While the trolls and noobs can get overbearing at times, creating false drama over the threat of the forum closing down isn't much better. While Andy doesn't come here often, nor all the threads relate to him specifically, I still get a sense his presence and name within the metal recording industry is what brings the majority of us here, even if motives by some are not always genuine. When you are as well known as he, and have a forum as well known as this, I'd take the prevalence of noobs to be a good sign that this place has been influential enough to attract even lowest common denominator "engineers" ;)

Time to hire more mods?

This.

I really hope it doesn't go :( I've learned so much in my short time here. So much so, in fact, that I now have aspirations to be an AE full-time, rather than a part-time dreamer, and it's given me the confidence to go out there and really make a go of it. I honestly don't think I could/would have done it if it weren't for the wealth of knowledge and the incredibly helpful guidance of some of the experienced guys on here.

Alas, I have been here long enough to see at least some degree of decline, and even when I joined I could tell it probably wasn't what it used to be. It seems to have gone the same way as ss.org. I fuckin loved that site man, I was on it all the goddamn time. Then it just got shitter, and the new members got gayer, then it became over populated with djent kids, and I didn't have my own little world any more. It was literally like someone had invaded my home. :(

The truth is that this forum is becoming a lair of idiots
like...

- Emo kids, crabcorers, and all kind of music aberrations.
- Sturgis worshipers. (Poor Joey)
- People who want their music/mix rated and never rate the other's.
- People who is registered just to open a promotional thread about their bands, albums and then they go off.
- Noobs that want magic potions and presets so they can avoid years of learning and experience.
- People that lick gurus asses in a very gay way.
- People who don't even own a real amp.

Anyway I will stay here until the AS forum apocalypse comes.
Fuck the world my friends.

there's this other place called ...uhh, outside that has all kinds of different people to talk to.

I say this in 1/2 joking fashion ..

you would have made a more compelling argument for that fact if you hadn't just typed it on an internet forum

Aside from that, I agree with you but also with Ermin in that out of the slightly good sized amount of friends I have in several types of social circle in the "real world", only a couple are part of the AE world and they tend to know about as much as me usually .. which is to say, not much ;)

Yep, plenty of people on the block to talk world-class audio production with.

yeah, there's a homeless fellow right down the corner of my house. I always talk about sidechain compressing on the drum bus with him, right before he takes his nap after the 2nd bottle of red wine.

Not sure if I'm part of the problem here, considering I'm nowhere near a professional... But I don't think money would be the problem for keeping this place alive, I'm pretty sure we've got users here more than willing to split the costs.

I don't think shutting the place down due to idiots, trolls etc. is going to happen either. Trolls could get an instant bannhammer, and idiots can go on the ignore list. Shouldn't be much of a problem. Perhaps another moderator or two would aleviate all/any problems.

I think the perceived "decline" is more to the ever growing influx of younger users, increasing the percentage of unexperienced members. This not exclusive to this forum, but happens everywhere simply because of technological advancements and the lowering threshold of the expenses involved in mixing. 10 years ago it was far more expensive to get started on this than it is today.

I think the mods are doing a pretty damned good job. I've seen a hefty amount of stupid posts and threads disappear pretty quickly.

Nearly everyone on this forum worth talking to has AIM or facebook as well.

Personally, I haven't spent much time discussing stuff here as of late. The truth of the matter is that I have learned a great deal of what I know from people on this forum, and I am greatly appreciative of the help I've been given, but I've had much more wholesome conversations at the rig-talk forum. The elitist attitude is pretty absent from the place, and the mood is much lighter, and most of the members are a bit older. Trolling is comical around there.

Drawing attention to issues just makes them worse in the big cesspool of the internet. Let's use the ignore button *which I've never once used, for that matter", and try to keep things rolling around here.

...of course i was being sarcastic!

i certainly do spend sometime on here (at work for the most part). i just think that there are people here that take this stuff way too seriously (the internet, as i have said before).

as far as ae friends, i guess i was fortunate to have a father that does audio engineering. i only have a few friends that are not audio engineers (or related field).

i like posting on this forum because you dudes are freaking hilarious (you, carlos especially)... sometimes my gf and i will stroll through the "we post funny pictures" thread because it's funnier than primetime television!

but as silly as it sounds there are tons of ae social "clubs" out there for the cork-sniffers... ie. AES, Grammy U, Pixar U, Skywalker Club, GANG, ect. etc.

this is how i made a lot of my contacts (that, and of course... college).

i guess a lot can be said about the "forum" nowadays... the word used to summon ideas and great opinions ...now "forums" are just seedy places for people to voice their cynical superiority complexes. (imo)

edit:
i haven't been here very long... so maybe it's much more difficult for me to connect. but i do understand that this place has changed... everything does.

I'd be pretty bummed if this place was shut down. I've learned more by hanging around here for less then a year then I have in the last couple of years, not only about AE-stuff, but also as a guitarplayer and a bandmember. Allthough I don't contribute much, mainly because I feel most people here know more about the subject then I do and I don't want to confuse those who want to learn. I wouldn't know where to look if mr. Sneap would take it down.

pretty much. if i look back i'm pretty sure most of my posts are just thanking people for free stuff
