Anybody know the wiring diagram to solder an Ibanez RG3EXFM1's V7/V8 pickups with a 5-way selector together? Just got a soldering iron and can't really find anything on this specific guitar.. Help GREATLY appreciated (I wanna start playin' guitar again!) :headbang:

Also, if it helps, I'm pretty new to soldering and it's kind of a pain in the ass :erk:

dude, watch out for the 5-way on that one, ibanez guitars with 2 humbuckers often use a switch with a configuration different from the standard fender one [1 3 5 5 3 1].
i'll try and get back with the exact diagram..

Found this on the SD forums, checked it out and looks accurate: (should work for any generic 4 wire humbuckers and the ibanez switch)

The silver wires labeled B,N are the wires at the end of both coils of the pickups.
The red and pink wires labeled B,N are the wires for splitting (the two wires twisted and soldered together for a pickup).
The 'V' leads to the volume pot.
The 'G' leads to ground.
The tone pot should be soldered normally.

Sorry if that's not very clear, do ask if any queries..

@Wolfeman: seriously? maybe i should look at a couple of amp schems without getting scared of so much stuff then :p

haha yeah it just boggles my mind. That's one reason why I use EMGs and only a volume control.

There are plenty of easy straight forward amps out there, I'm sure if you can understand a pickup wiring diagram you would have no problem with an amp!

nice.. basically, i read up a lot of stuff when i wanted to wire my guitar with one EMG and one passive pickup and got my head around it all.. now that guitar has Off,PassiveHum,PassiveCoil1,PassiveCoil2,EMG - just the way i wanted it..
Maybe i'll look towards building a small amp as well.. we did design an audio amplifier with transistors in class but i don't really understand the way tubes work yet, or transformers..

Thanks alot for diggin' this up for me, man!

One thing though, the V7/V8's that I'm trying to put in.. Well, the V7 (Neck) has a green, red, black, white, and bare wire. While the V8 has a red, white, and bare wire. If it helps, these are the versions of the pickups that are covered with a plate. I don't know if there's any difference.. But I can't seem to figure out which wires were wrapped together, and the proper color coding according to that chart? :ill:

I'm guessing the bare wires are the grounds for the pickups?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, once again, first time soldering any pickups :Smug:

Thanks alot man!

alright now from what i just read up about the wire colours this is what you should do if what i read is correct:

lets name those prongs on the switch from 1-8, k?

The diagram shows:
Code:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
B _ N V B N _ G

rite?

now what you want is this:

1: V8's red wire (hot wire)
2: empty
3: V7's red wire (hot wire)
4: Wire to volume knob
5: V8's white wire (split wire)
6: V7's black and green wire (ends of the two coils, therefore, split wires)
7: empty
8: Grounded to body of switch (which is grounded in star config)

and now, note that you gotta ground the bare wires as well...

That shud do it...

You are the fucking man.

This forum needs to have a reputation system so I can legitimately +1 you.

I'm gonna go try this now, thanks a MILLION, man!

no problem man..
not great enough with mixes/tones yet to help out much there, so glad to give back to this awesome forum in ways i can..
