Some brand new label work.

No Care Ever
Just finished mix 1 for this band tonight.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/536384/UMF/Unworthy.mp3

guitars are my Ibanez EXFX through maxon OD808, 5150, mesa cab, and DIGI 003 pre. The day before reamping, my studio flooded, and my landlord moved my guitar cab and mics during cleanup, so i had to find a new sweet spot for the first time in months:Smug: i like the end result though.

Drums are a mix of slate and other samples along with mics. The snare mic is -1.5 db under the sample, mainly because the hi hat cut through too much to bring it higher. The drummer was the most solid i've had in here(velocity wise), so it was very easy using the mic tracks. The kick is 100% replaced though.

Vocals are sm7b into 003 pre. I haven't been feeling my A2D lately for some reason(I think something is wrong with the built in clock).
c1 compression on screams, CLA-76 compression on the singing parts.

Bass is a musicman with steel strings through maxon and sansamp.

That about covers most of the bases. Lemme know your thoughts or questions.

Here is mix 2.

I changed quite a bit, mainly with drums and the master bus.

also, here is a video of drum tracking if you guys are interested. He managed it in 1 take.
What you hear in the video is just the mics(except for kick, which is all trig).

This is the best sounding work you've done. Congrats.

I'd like to hear a bit more bass grit, and a little more presence and less volume on those vocals.

It sounds rather muddy to me - the bass, guitar, snare room are all really 100-200hzy. or maybe my ears are just shot from constant drum editing.

I think you could raise the OHs in the chorus, especially that crash on the right is really soft.

Guitars sound so über massive. Can you give me some detailed insight in your settings, micplacement ec....? because I have the SAME setup :)

My guess would be:
Red channel

gain something between 2-4
lows 6-8
mids 1-3
highs 5-7
Resonance 7-9
Presence 7-9

maxon:
Volume: all in
gain: 50%
tone: 50-70%

single sm57 on axis 2cm from the con?

cheers.

And whats up with your api?
did you try to use the api as your world-clock?
It should realy sound better with the digi as the slave....

Did you try to push the input of the api real hard. This realy brings out the character

I like the sound of the instruments and drums but overall it seems muddy and dull. It should be a relatively easy thing to correct though - some wide high low/low mid cuts and high boost and it's rocking

gotta agree the whole thing is a little muddy.
mostly the snare caught my attention.
id try less 180hz on the snare and more crisp high end,, somehow the mix does not really jump out of the speakers
as it could. i dont think its a mastering issue, as i dont think the cymbals arent bright enough, its more the rest of the kit.

sounds fucking amazing here.
snare could maybe use some more top end it but everyone's already pointed that out :)

guitars are absolutely fucking awesome!

Really digging that guitar sound, would suit the stuff I play the most atm pretty well.
As soon as the clean vocals start, the song starts to suck a bit imho, but I like the sound
and even the "mudiness".

Guitars sound massive on little speakers so i'm sure its devastating on some real speakers! Snare needs more high end around 8k or cut some of that 200hz. Its got to much thud and kinda pulls your attention away from all the goodness.

Almost sounds like you got a tapehead on the snare in dark mode.

This is going to sound stupid but what's the api?

+1 to all this. It's not my favorite work of yours are I think it may be the culmination of the 003 pre's doing ALL the work, hence creating a little muddiness.

But yeah, it sounds massive on my laptop speakers so fuck it! lol.

Excellent job brian. Fuckin diggin this man...maybe the snare is a little too big tho.. just in the quicker parts. Holy shit tho ... nice
