OK, I wanted to put this one on the table for quite a while, but I wanted to mature the idea before, so I guess I finally get into shape.

This is not a simple top ten, so if you are kind of gung-ho beware! You'll need to read inside yourself before post if you want to be consequent with the spirit of the thread.

Some minor rules (and please GOD DAMN IT follow them for once):
  1. Top ten like in ten songs, not 9, not 11, TEN (10)
  2. No need to order them (but allowed).
  3. Base your choice on your heart and soul, don't follow trends, reviews or your uncle advice.
  4. Discussion of the list is welcomed, but keep the peace and respect (what's crap for you can be another person food).
  5. You can post more than one per album/band. I feel it'll be more intersting to diversify, anyone can come and post 10 songs of their #1 album of the year, but that'll be too easy, isn't it?
Last day for posts is January 1st 2006, so don't rush, take your time and think about a list to make you dream ;)

Whew, that's gonna be tough. I can only say that, so far, I know there will be some stuff from the Nevermore record. And, just released today, from the Opeth record, which I keep starting over when it finishes playing. Saxon probably....hmmmm. I will be thinking on this. This has actually been a bit of a good year for metal (and music generally speaking - Mars Volta's album is awesome for instance).

Opeth, Nevermore, Meshuggah, Ulver & Avenged Sevenfold will be among the best tracks... that leaves 5 spaces and 4 months to decide... tough one ! :err:

1) Don't Let Me Bleed - Glenn Hughes
Awesome, heavy, epic....totally grand in every way. More emotion that you can handle.

2) Black Dwarf - Candlemass

3) Final Product (is that the right name?) - Nevermore

4) I Go Insane - Iommi/Hughes
This is just Hughes' year. Everything the man touches sparkles.

5) Sailing the Seas... - Bruce Dickinson
Great track...great vocal performance

6) Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
Awesome band. Awesome album. The riffage in this song reminds me SO MUCH of Zep's "Song Remains the Same".

Other notables:
OPETH - The album was just released yesterday, so it's too soon to say.
Kamelot - I just picked this one up yesterday, but it sounds great!

Fuck rules, I can't think of 10...
Exodus; Raze
Nevermore ; Born
Kamelot ; Moonlight
Overkill ; A pound of flesh
Bruce Dickinson ; Abduction
Masterplan ; Crimson Rider
Pagan's Mind : the celistine prophecy
Pantommind ; Why
Exodus : Raze
Raze from Exodus

Hey, I did get upto 10 !!!!!

#1 is Ghost of Perdition by Opeth.

the other 9 in no order:
Exodus - Raze
Exodus - 44 Magnum Opus
Starbreaker - Lies
Russell Allen - Gaia
Pagan's Mind - Enigmatic Mission
Soul SirkUS - Another World
Soul SirkUS - Periled Divide
Opeth - Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Redemption - Scarred

Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore (track -6) - The Mars Volta
(from my non-metal album of the year - and maybe all around album of the year)
My Acid Words - Nevermore
(made their Master of Puppets this year)
In Your Honor - Foo Fighters
(Dave Grohl can write. This song has a huge sound.)
Power of the Sun - Bruce Dickinson
(Kickass follow up to Chemical Wedding. My fave on the album)
Milk - Kings of Leon
(I'm the only one who likes this...)
With Teeth - NIN
(The single was good too, but this was even better.)
Tangled Up In Plaid - Queens of the Stone Age
(Hard to choose one from this album, really. All the same in a good way)
Crescent - Dead Can Dance (from reunion live CD)
(Glad they are working again. I'm very moved by this)

Plus tracks to be decided from Opeth, Slough Feg, Pelican, Robert Plant and a few others. So I guess the list is still in motion. Also, I don't have the new Manilla Road yet.

It's been a good year, I think.
Big "discoveries":
YOB - The Illusion of Motion
Acid Mothers Temple
Manilla Road
Pagan Altar
...a few more....

Lotsa great shows too.

Is a new Dead Can Dance live CD available?!?!?!? Or, is this from the series of "bootlegs" (a la Pearl Jam) that the band is selling direct??!??! :headbang:

Well it's my time. So here are my ten best songs (IMO) form 2005 as for 31/08/05.

Alice Cooper – ‘The Ballad Of Jesse Jane’
Astral Doors – ‘Pull The Break’
Bruce Dickinson – ‘Navigate The Seas Of The Sun’
Candlemass – ‘Seven Silver Keys’
Demons & Wizards – ‘Wicked Witch
Hammerfall – ‘Fury Of The Wild’
Iommi/Hughes – ‘I Go Insane’
Masterplan – ‘Wounds’
Rata Blanca - 'Guitarra Española'
Sabaton – ‘Primo Victoria’

Baring in mind that I haven't heard any of the new Alice Cooper yet, here's my list.

1) Love's Tragedy Asunder - Demons and Wizards
2) The Haunting (Somewhere in Time) - Kamelot
3) The Dark - Jon Oliva's Pain
4) Worth Fighting For - Judas Priest
5) My Acid Words - Nevermore
6) Revenga - System of a Down
7) Navigate the Seas of the Sun - Bruce Dickenson
8) Seize the Day - Demons and Wizards
9) Moonlight - Kamelot
10) Judas Rising - Judas Priest

4) Worth Fighting For - Judas Priest
8) Seize the Day - Demons and Wizards

Those three were hard contenders in my list. Chances are they may change/shuffle before 01/01/06.

As for Alice don't worry, you quote many songs I haven't heard (and I probably won't :lol: ), so is highly improbable that anyone will have ALL 2005 releases to broaden the sampling range.

Sabaton - Panzer Battalion
Iommi - Dopamine
HammerFall - Fury of the Wild
Symphorce - Nowhere
Icarus Witch - Roses and White Lace

It was direct from the band. There is this kickass company now (I'll get back to you on the name), that does soundboard recordings for the whole tour, then makes 500 (or however many, 500 for DCD) for each show. I believe I paid $40 or $45 for it, but it was worth it. It comes in a fancy jewel case, has pro art work and REAL cds etc. VERY COOL. I think it's the wave of the future. I bought the Dublin show. Incidentally, I'll through it in the package headed to NY. It's fantastic; several new songs.

Are you going to see them? I actually have tickets for three shows, but then I'm a huge dork.

Dungeon= Against the Wind
Firewind=Tyranny
Brainstorm=Inside A Monster
Twisted Tower Dire=Axes and Honor
Nevermore=Born
Fear Factory= New Promise
Dungeon=Where Madness Hides
Darkane=Secondary Effects
DragonLand=A Madness Took Me
Cryonic Temple= In Thy Power

This list was very tough to make and theres alot of stuff I would love to put on here still.
