I noticed there is barely any lead guitar work. Morningrise is great album but it blows my mind.

Nectar has a solo, BRI has 2, To Bid You Farewell has one though it is brief. Orchid definitely has more. Actually even though Morningrise is probably my favorite Opeth album, the lead work is my least favorite of their whole career. Just not that interesting.

I agree, I didnt like this album a whole lot up until not long ago, but latley it's been growing on me (boy, that sure is an overused term when describing Opeth's music.) However, I share that same complaint still. In fact thats the main reason why I'm a lot bigger on the newer stuff. They've grown so much as musicians, and it really shows in their more current works (BWP comes to mind.) However, theres no denying that I still have love for their lead work in Morningrise. :)

Actually, I can't recall any mind-blowing lead on Morningrise, they all vanish in an ocean of dual guitar harmonies. Sorry my beloved old-school fags ;) but if you're looking for leads to remember, this album isn't the right choice... A small numbre of them on the mentioned album is another matter...

It's better than Ghost Reveries but nothing else from the band imo.

Old school fags? Morningrise is still a far better effort then their most recent.
Yup, it beats GR. But SL/BWP/MAYH? Meh. I'm not getting into an argument here, but you just sound ignorant.

Well excuse me, but I find your comments quite prejudiced. I dont seem to recall mentioning anything about MAYH, SL or BWP. I simply stated the "most recent", ie Ghost Reveries. Arguments have been going on latley about flaming peoples tastes... Im not flaming anyones tastes, Im simply stating my own opinion. And to call me ignorant for stating an opinion that you dont happen to agree with is really quite stupid wouldn't you agree?

The solos on Morningrise are terrible - bar the TBYF solo. But they're not as bad as the Orchid solos! Christ i hate them so much! Thank God for April Ethereal!

To my ears they sound terrible and i can't stand how they all seem to use unison bends. They sound like the solos i wrote when i started playing guitar - just plain bad. TBYF was when Opeth solos started getting good and April Ethereal's solo confirmed it was a change for the good.

Hah I think the solos on Orchid are great, though the one in the middle of Forest of October is almost laughable, I don't know why. Just all those really high pitched notes sound cartoonish.

Forest Of October, whilst being one of my favourite older songs, has my most despised Opeth solos in it. It's just the most horrible arrangement of notes possible .. **puts on The Funeral Portrait solos** ...ah... much better :)
