Hey guys,

Just demoing a song off my upcoming EP, its pretty dark/moody melodic through most of it until the end where a full band mix comes into play.

My ears are pretty shot so im interested in hearing some opinions on it. Mastering isnt properly done and the fade out at the end isnt finalized so ignore all that.

And its Rip G from this very forum on vocals!

Sounds great dude, I really like the vocals as well!

I want to hear this through the Finalizer... :kickass:

Thanks man!

Yeah im eagerly awaiting its arrival

Overall this mix will no doubt change abit since it will be consistant through the EP but this is the first song ive got fully tracked with all vocals down so it seemed right to "release" this one first. Im pleased with most of it just the "kick in" was fairly difficult along with trying to get the heavy vocals to sit properly *not even sure they sit well even now*.

The finals will hopefully be 50% boogie and 50% 6505 if Mark lets me borrow his for the full EP reamping sesh I have planned!

Songwriting didn't give me any rewards or whatsoever and was kinda Cliché all the time but the package worked nice, intro was by it's own kinda lame but i think thats thought carefully? soo i think it's all about taste here. But the sound is alllright! Could be more roomish and sound more like a one package but it's nice. I really wanted MORE FX or small leads in the intro to make it more interesting. Paint it up a little bit :) Keep up, good work!

Thanks :) It was suppose to be fairly "sparce" until the end. Its one of those where you have to listen to it a few times to "get" the full picture rather than the bit your listening to at the time, if that makes any sense :P

Ive addressed a few things and updated the OP link.

Ive put some effects into the intro to tie it in more, I like it much better now.

Wow, awesome drums. Remind me a lot of the ones on the latest Slipknot album. What did you use for them?

Everything else is pretty much perfect. The guitars could use a TOUCH more lowmids and a touch more highs (like 8khz), but otherwise.. damn. Good job.

Only other comment would be that the sung vocals stick out too much, at 4;20. They need some more compression, and I think less verb/delay? Not sure, but they're very separate from the rest of the mix. But the whispery vocals sound fine.

Thanks dude, the drums were a concoction of TMF, Slate and a few other samples I made myself.

Regarding the geetars do you mean the clean ones or the dirty ones?

I find vocals the hardest part because I don't get to mix them very often so ill look into those parts :) They are compressed to shit but I think a bit of waveform altering should do the trick. Im unsure how to get the heavy vocals to sit in the mix any better :(

Im also contemplating cutting bits of the song....im on the fence about it.

I like this so far. I think when the doomy vocals cut out and the strumming clean guitars come in, the treble should get knocked up on the guitars, or you should perhaps shoot in an acoustic!

I like the vibe.

Yeah im gonna try a few things over that section to give it a bit more depth and interest. Glad you like :)

Great songwriting dude. Awesome vocals too. EP will be killer if that's an indication.

Thats very much appreciated!

Yeah the rest of the EP is heavier but the same qualitys will still apply haha

yes you can borrow my 6505 ted, lol

however i dunno wen ill be bak up with it for a chunk of time, maybe over crimbo

Aye no worries, gives me more time to get everything ready anyway :)

sounds great, tell us more about the guitar tone please ;)

I just reamped the heavy guitars yesterday and it was just 57 - 1960DM - Dual rec *orange channel* - quad tracked and I run 2 of the 4 guitars through the liquid pre API emulation and the other half through the Neve 1073 emulation to perhaps give a slight difference between each side.

HP/LP, bit of mid boost and thats about it IIRC!

Updated the main post with the final version which ill be putting on the myspace tonight.

Done a fair bit of work to it both mix wise and songwriting wise. Ill regard this is the final pre-release version so I don't think ill be making any changes to it unless theres something major that needs sorting.

This is also the first time ive used my new Finalizer on the mastering and I bloody love it!

Enjoy!
