Songs that sound like other songs... rip offs or not?

Yea, I'm gonna die a thousand deaths for posting these:

"The Turning" (SX of course) at 2:53 sounds a lot like a bit in "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen) at 2:55.

"Rediscovery, Pt.2" (SX again) and "Song for America" (Kansas). I won't go into the specifics as most of you know about it.

I'm sure Savatage was influenced by the same Kansas song, just listen to the main melody in "Complaint in the System"

The most recent one is the Edguy song 'Wasted Time' on their latest album, Rocket Ride. The opening riff and the song itself, overall, is a rip-off of the classic Deep Purple song, 'Anya'. Or maybe Sammett was paying a tribute to Deep Purple, since Rocket Ride was itself a tribute album to '80s Rock/Metal.

Just heard a band called Neverland. The songs: When Darkness Falls and Buy Your Dream......total SyX clone.

- The first heavy riff of Dream Theater's 'The killing hand' sounds like the slow riff in Megadeth's 'Holy wars... the punishment due.'

I never thought of it before, and after watching the new Megadeth DVD last night, I agree that they do sound a lot like each other.

Another one that no-one has ever responded to on any forum when this topic comes up, is the part in between the chorus and the heavy mid section in Dream Theater's The Glass Prison, is similar to the intro/main melody/riff to Megadeth's My Darkest Hour.

Another one is the first riff to Dream Theater's This Dying Soul is similar to Ark's Noose.

Unfortunately, DT have many parts that sound like other bands, some are paying tribute while others are merely coincidence. It's bound to happen with so much going on in their songs I guess.

hell yes, i just heard that part, around the 5:25 mark of 'glass prison,' it never occurred to me before.

but as far as i know, dt guys only proclaimed being fans of 'rust in peace.' wish they cover the whole RIP.

This is very reminiscent of one of the parts from Liquid Tension Experiment's "Universal Mind."

A lot of Weird Al's stuff sounds frighteningly similar to various songs of various genres...

On the subject of that, I've wanted him to parody metal for so long... why doesn't he??
