Well,

I've been recently suprising myself to be addicted to a certain extend to numerous Opeth songs I didn't enjoy in the past; Godhead's Lament is a good exemple...

What about you?

Oh yeah almost forgot,

I was not too fond of The Night And The Silent Water. As for now, I'm in an addictive state of admiration towards the sheer beauty of this precious track :loco:

The Night and the Silent Water has always been a favorite of mine...

For me, the newer Opeth stuff had to grow on me...
MAYH grew much, much more quickly than SL or BWP...
Songs like the Drapery Falls, Bleak and Leper Affinity didn't really grasp me right away... But I appreciate them now...

I just start enjoying the entire Morningrise album.

It´s a bit strange, I bought Orchid and Morningrise 8 days ago and liked Orchid instantly. But it´s much harder for me to get into Morningrise (especially the songs Advent, Night & Silent Water and Nectar). But I start enjoying special parts of the songs (the last 3 minutes of Night & Silent Water are great) :)

Let me think...The Opeth song that took the longest to grow on me was "Blackwater Park". I used to make a point of not listening to it for some reason. A while later I gave it a listen and suddenly realised its one of my favourite songs, now I love it.

Credence seemed boring to me for a long time, now I enjoy it, I used to hate Nectar (mainly because the best part, the start, ends so quickly) now I think its good, and, April Etheral took me AGES to like, still don't like Karma though.

It works the opposite way though, I think some of Opeth's songs fade from being amazing to simply good. Bleak I think is a song that eventually fades, Harvest, Serenity Painted Death, The Amen Corner and In the Mist she was Standing are the only songs so far that have faded for me.

In Mist She Was Standing NEVER FADES!!! :o :o

Man, I'm with Manes on everything he has said!!!

The Night and the Silent Water and Nectar are the TWO songs that got me into Opeth - very melodic and quite often, dark...Nectar takes off instantly with one of the greatest intros I have heard, and The Silent Water has one heck of an acoustic moment within...they are still amongst my top favourite offerings from Opeth, for Morningrise is indeed my favourite album by them (and, my favourite album in general.)

Also a note on Morningrise and Orchid - while, the two albums are quite similar in style and tone, Orchid to me is the MORE heavier of the two while Morningrise tends to emphasize more on "melodics". Morningrise is, IMO, the most melodic of all the Opeth albums.

And yes, In The Midst She Was Standing never fades....this one is perhaps right after Black Rose Immortal, being my #2 fav song....

I didn't like a lot of Morningrise at first, but as some may know that has changed considerably over the past year. I agree with you Alcapoth when you say that you think its one of the most melodic. It took me a while to really appreciate what was going on there. I liked the heavier sounds of MAYH and Orchid right away.
