SPASM bass tone

So, i'm working on a grindcore where there's no guitars, just drums, vocals and distorted bass guitar. I'm having no luck and i'd think that it's impossible to sounds any close to good, but there's this band:

There's only bass guitar in their records and they sound fairly nice.
Any idea how this bass tone was achieved?

Anything would help, i'm desperate.

DI bass, buss it to another track, use original di for lows, run the other track through a guitar amp sim/impulses and highpass it. smash the fuck out of it.
