Stand-Up Comedy Thread

it will be interesting if his daughter's mother speaks out, seems like that marriage ended terribly since he made two shows about his relationship/life

most of his early stand-up was based around how horrible married life is so his divorce didn't come as a surprise to me heh, i'm sure him being a creepy perv was a factor though. i think that vid i linked was not long after his divorce too.

if norm’s new show gets pulled from netflix ‘cause of this garbage there’s gonna be a riot lol

edit:
Q: But what about Louis CK, who did a surprise set at the Comedy Cellar. A couple of women said afterward that they were uncomfortable with his being there unannounced.

Macdonald: Oh, did they? Well, those women should get their money back, because I know it was a surprise set. I wasn’t there, but everything I heard about it was that he did very well. But if some women were upset, the Comedy Cellar should give them their money back and $200 each.

Q: $200?

Macdonald: $200. I think they could get through the trauma if they were paid $200 and could buy some nice shoes.

lol

I've marathoned those Norm compilations so many times man. You click one and you basically descend immediately into a rabbit hole, you can't not just keep going. One of my absolute favourites is when he was on a radio show shitting on teachers and stay-at-home parents and then it turned into the hosts acting offended because he said black Americans are poorer than whites, they tried to virtue-signal and it backfired because black callers kept coming on and backing him up lmfao.

He's like the drunken master of comedians with his delivery and the way his mind works.

If he wasn't such an autistic minimalist weirdo he could just create his own show using the Internet and it'd absolutely kill IMO. Hopefully this show happens though, I'd watch it. Netflix is very trigger happy (PUN INTENDED) these days with cancellations for political reasons.

he did kinda do that for a while with the norm live podcast (which that first youtube is from) and it was amazing. he became more of a traditional and tasteful interviewer in his latest season of that though, which was less funny IMO and is definitely what landed him this netflix gig. i'm hoping this'll be a return to form but we'll see.

he's definitely a weird dude. there are a lot of stories out there about him having big opportunities and just screwing them by not turning up or w/e. he's also gambled away his entire life savings multiple times (you can see him in gambling mode in celebrity who wants to be a millionaire). maybe he just has that self-sabotaging impulse and that's why this is happening now he got his big break, although i suspect it's more that this is his first time in the limelight since the metoo era kicked in and the libs are only just realising he's not 'one of them'.

the actual interview that got him kicked off the tonight show is here

I always forget about that, same with Anthony Cumia's podcast. They're very traditional talkshow-esque podcasts. But yeah I saw that interview, pretty funny the absolute state of things these days when a comedian gets penalized for making a joke about a disgraced comedian triggering 3 audience members with his mere presence at a comedy show. The standard for what is controversial in 2018 is fucking pathetic.

Man I remember watching an interview with someone who is friends with Norm and he's telling a story about how he's at a bar watching NFL games and Norm calls him, says he'll come down and hang out and he'll be there soon. The guy ends up watching like 3 games and is hammered as fuck, is about to leave the bar and go home and Norm walks in like "where you going I just got here" and the guy reveals that he'd been waiting like 6 hours for Norm to show up lmfao.

The man is a true enigma.

Norm Macdonald Compounds Problems With Down Syndrome Comment.
NBC canceled Norm Macdonald’s appearance on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday after he made comments defending several entertainers accused of wrongdoing, including Louis C. K. and Roseanne Barr.

He later apologized, but on Wednesday, while discussing the controversy, he gave it new life by telling Howard Stern, “You’d have to have Down syndrome” not to feel sorry for the victims of sexual abuse.

i mean, he should probably stop with the offensive humour until his show drops, but nah that was pretty funny. i've no doubt he knew what he was doing with that comment in that context.

yeah i kinda wish he'd do less backtracking and just stand up for himself, but i don't think he was ever trying to upset anyone, he seems kinda depressed about the whole thing. the downs thing was just one of his usual knowingly offensive comments, made funnier because he timed it during his apology for his previous offensive thing. it's a very norm thing to do, probably unwise given the attention on him, he's always v relaxed on the stern show and that probably didn't serve him well in this instance.

also he defended himself on the view by saying he said downs syndrome because he thought retarded wasn't allowed anymore... and they actually bought it as an explanation somehow lol

Really sucks when Joy Behar gets involved in the PC repression of comedy, even though she's on that dogshit show she always used to stand up for the comedians and was a great counterweight for the clucking pearl-clutchers on that panel.

These are still two of the greatest ever 'comedian vs. outrage culture' clips:

Jim Norton was on fire here.
