Started on the final song for my album - rate my idea!

I'm agreeing with Gareth on the strings, in the pre-chorus and chorus it sounds absolutely amazing. But it doesn't fit with the first two riffs (my opinion).
The strings makes the sound a little too 'sweet/nice' the riffs by itself have some sort of darkish/going mad vibe to it (hope that makes sense to you) which i think is very awesome. And i do believe that it makes a hella lot more impact with the pre-chorus when suddenly the strings kick in.

And that clip with Behindert's guitar was just pure porn.

Yeah I will definately try the EWQL free once stuff is tracked and I'm ready to mix. Yup, the mix is nowhere "final" so I've sort of mixed stuff the way I've felt it needed to be for me to hear stuff and judge if they're good and so on.. therefore some synths/strings are really loud and so on.

This is not symphonic metal though so the mix will emphasize the foundation which is the usual drums, bass and guitars (and of course vocals). Everything else is supposed to be sort of below everything else just to fill out some room and thicken up the sound but without being so protruding as in symphonic metal where the orchestra is almost the "main" thing in the mix.

i'd just say be carefull to not listen to the "symphonic metal mix" too often, maybe you get sick of the strings^^ would be a pitty though

Anyway, yeah I do agree with you guys about the strings on the intro riff and the verse. I still want "something" extra other than guitars there though. Maybe I'll find something meaner and sharper, like some really digital synth stuff or whatever.
