I hear a lot of BWP-ish riffs on In Absentia, but nothing that points to Meshuggah, really.

Bingo. A lot of their stuff is in 4/4 (listen to the drums for the beat), even on their earlier albums, but they still kick ass.
 
im-ho : you obviously don't know what you're talking about if you said that. Chorridor of Chameleons, Concantation...hello! Complex meter out the kazoo.

A lot is 4/4 drums (hands) with amazingly syncopated repetitive patterns on guitar/bass/kick.
