Stoner Rock for the Summer -- any recommendations?

p.s. the term "stoner rock" is severely gay, i know i mentioned this before, but i still have hope that you will all learn not to use it.

I have no idea what to call it but so far everyone seems to be on the money with recommendations, so it serves a purpose. Plus the website stonerrock.com seems to reflect what most people would perceive as "stoner rock".

That aside, have you heard Wolfmother & Early Man yet? I have to assume you have by this point, since you're always ahead of the curve in this genre.

I'd agree that alot of really disparate bands are thrown under that label, thereby rendering it useless.

How does that make a label useless? Only if you expect the label to entail one specific sound. If there is a characteristic that can be used to unite a bunch of music under a common label, why not do it?

I actually think a lot of genre names are rad, I just can't stand the arguing that goes with the territory. Like people bitching because I call Drudkh black metal instead of Heathen Crusade Nature Worship. If it sounds like ____ to you, guess what, it is.

Oh yeah and JayK, there's this group that Doomicifer shoved down my throat, I forget their name but they had a shitload of rad guitar solos and their album cover was dark green with like a yellow sword or something. I liked but didn't love them, but I think you would love the tits off them. Or in them even, I dunno.

No, you guys are DEAD WRONG about Wolfmother, no shit. Or at least, just listen to the "unicorn" song playing on their website. Total Led Zep worship with Hammond Organ and Sabbath/Iommi riffs.

Well, I listened to half of the first two tracks, on ill-fitting headphones, so I'll accept that I could have misjudged these guys.

The best part is that the vocalist is INCREDIBLE. You can tell he's a "real" singer, in that he's probably had singing lessons etc. Really good range and control.

He didn't impress me, during the little that I heard.

I just need to go buy it now.

I honestly think this is going to be one of those CDs where you'll listen to it again on your Shures, cranking the volume, and think to yourself, "what was I thinking, this shit is smokin'.".
