Stoner Rock for the Summer -- any recommendations?

p.s. the term "stoner rock" is severely gay, i know i mentioned this before, but i still have hope that you will all learn not to use it.

I have no idea what to call it but so far everyone seems to be on the money with recommendations, so it serves a purpose. Plus the website stonerrock.com seems to reflect what most people would perceive as "stoner rock".

That aside, have you heard Wolfmother & Early Man yet? I have to assume you have by this point, since you're always ahead of the curve in this genre.

I'd agree that alot of really disparate bands are thrown under that label, thereby rendering it useless.

How does that make a label useless? Only if you expect the label to entail one specific sound. If there is a characteristic that can be used to unite a bunch of music under a common label, why not do it?

I <3 the term stoner rock.

I actually think a lot of genre names are rad, I just can't stand the arguing that goes with the territory. Like people bitching because I call Drudkh black metal instead of Heathen Crusade Nature Worship. If it sounds like ____ to you, guess what, it is.

Oh yeah and JayK, there's this group that Doomicifer shoved down my throat, I forget their name but they had a shitload of rad guitar solos and their album cover was dark green with like a yellow sword or something. I liked but didn't love them, but I think you would love the tits off them. Or in them even, I dunno.

OK, if you remember the name of the band then that might help. :loco:

By the way, check out Wolfmother - you have it already *cough*.

Also check out Witchcraft for the love of goat.

That was my hint to say "go ask Doomcifer or wait for him to pop up in here." :loco:

Wolfmother will be checked out today, getting a CD-R from my assistant.

I've requested Witchcraft mp3s numerous times only to be left cold, alone, and playing with myself in a corner!

No, you guys are DEAD WRONG about Wolfmother, no shit. Or at least, just listen to the "unicorn" song playing on their website. Total Led Zep worship with Hammond Organ and Sabbath/Iommi riffs.
Well, I listened to half of the first two tracks, on ill-fitting headphones, so I'll accept that I could have misjudged these guys.

The best part is that the vocalist is INCREDIBLE. You can tell he's a "real" singer, in that he's probably had singing lessons etc. Really good range and control.
He didn't impress me, during the little that I heard.

I just need to go buy it now. :heh:
As I said, $9.99 at VV. And if you buy it now, you get a bracelet that guarentees you entry for their in-store appearance later this week. It's 8PM on Thursday. Unfortunately, I can't go, I'm going to see Isis.:loco:

EDIT: @NAD cos Zod's got the ninja posting edits today.

I shall make sure your "assistant" gets "you" a "CD-R" of witchcraft.

[didn't know this was "the" secret hand"shake" -- please "keep" me in the loop] :loco:

No no no no....give it a fair listen on the MP3s.

I honestly think this is going to be one of those CDs where you'll listen to it again on your Shures, cranking the volume, and think to yourself, "what was I thinking, this shit is smokin'.".

Or you could end up stabbing yourself with a spoon. Who knows. :loco:

lizard, my assistant says he likes you.

I mean it wouldn't make sense if I said "yeah Adam says Wolfmother rocks" would it? I mean you might think I'm talking about that made up Bible story, what's it called, Adam and Steve?

smooches back!

does your assistant have a hump?
