Suffocation last night....

Suffocation were great. I knew they would be as I've seen them a couple of times. Carcass were my favorite of the night and easily one of the best death metal bands I've seen. I would've liked to have seen more old stuff too, but Heartwork is their best selling album, so it makes sense that they play more material off of it. It was a great show.

At the MA show Suffocation was good.... for what they are. Carcass cleaned up though.

Well...what they are, is one of the most influential and consistently awesome death metal bands in history. Almost as legendary as Carcass in most circles. They fucking slayed.

Carcass stole the show though.

God dammit. I wish I could have seen that show...not a bad band on the bill. I've seen Suffocation many many times and it should be no wonder why they are my favorite death metal band...so great live. I've been wanting to see 1349 live for a while, and of course Carcass...DAMMIT.

Oh well, I'm glad you guys had fun. And Heartwork is a landmark death metal album; I think it's one of their best works.

Aborted was bad.
Their old material is fantastic. Their new stuff is more concerned with having the most br00tal breakdown rather than writing a good song. The fact that their drummer was wearing an Every Time I Die shirt should tell you what sound their new stuff is headed towards.

but when they play a set thats just all of that crappy Heartwork album.....i was just disappointed....IMO

:bah:

I'm startled that you weren't there. (!)

It's consistently considered one of THE defining albums in extreme metal, if not metal overall.

Surprised no one has mentioned Necrophagist from the show. I was happily surprised by them. Tight as hell.
1349 was good, but how long did they play...20 minutes maybe.
Suffocation is not my cup of tea. Didn't do anything for me.
Carcass... Brilliant. Awesome show.

Necrophagist weren't in Atlanta. We had Carcass, Suffocation, 1349, Aborted and Rotten Sound. Rotten Sound were great too.

I see them are run of the mill, but I also don't value the death genre as much as others. Sure, there are some stand outs, but for my dollars, its done better.

A lot of factors went into me not being there. The biggest one was that I'm now living in Mississippi and my parents had been planning a trip down this weekend to visit me (haven't seen them in well over a month, so it was very nice). They came down on Friday and then stayed through this morning. It was a perfect time for them to come because my dad's alma mater (Auburn) played my new grad school (Mississippi State) and it gave us a chance to drink beer and have a good time.

Does it suck that I didn't see Carcaas, 1349, Suffocation, and all the other great bands? YES. Do I regret it? No, family comes first....I love my parents...just a bit of bad luck....or was it?

The other factor: couldn't afford it. I ran out of money...I'm at close to zero dollars and I get paid on Tuesday. I'll be fine, financially, but I just hit a bunch of bills all at once, and even in ideal situations, I'd be borrowing money just to make it to Atlanta. So, oh well. I can't afford to drive to Nashville tonight to see Sigh, either. The only thing keeping me from deep metal depression: FUCKING PROG POWER USA.

hmmmm true i guess...i am glad though they work things out and got back on the road...and if they do another album im hoping they do something on the lines of their oldschool days....hopes

As others have said, you're crazy if you don't like Heartwork.

I wouldn't count on them doing anything after this run of dates finishes. Amott is already so busy with Arch Enemy these days and I was told by someone at Nuclear Blast that they are calling it quits after the touring, for whatever that's worth.

Fair enough. I'm not saying that you have to like them or anything. But as for them being run of the mill...well, Suffocation did it first. They might sound generic to your ears but that's simply because other bands copied Suffocation's style.
