btw maudlin of the well kicks ass...though i have not a fucking clue as to what theyre doing...

What happened with me is that a friend told me: hey you gotta listen to this great metal band,they are called Maudlin of the Well.So I go ahead and download one of their songs,Marid's gift of art,and find it very beautiful specially for the lyrics and since I trust this friend's music taste a lot I go and buy bath...
One of my worst buys ever! I don't get why it gets so much praise,the sound is...well just crappy;the metal is only on They aren't all beautiful and it's not even good metal,it's fucking chaos trying to be artistic or something.
This is all my opinion of course,everyone can disagree

i dont really think of them as metal..more of a band with metal tendencies, but i think its really good. at least theyre not some slipknot shit band with 9 members that dont do a fucking thing but injure themselves with their own instruments

You were stating that you wanted something more "intelligent" (which is intellectual) than 'other' deathmetal bands.

My point was that you aren't going to get more "intelligent" cd's from Suffocation if you think Deicide is less 'intelligent.'

Deathmetal isn't really a genre that embraces that. Especially 'brutal' deathmetal.

That was all I was saying just didn't want you to be wasting your money on something you wont like. Suffocation is pretty "cookie monster" also

They are more technical than some deathmetal bands, but not really 'more' so than Deicides legion album.

Just download some songs, and if you like them, buy their shit.

I prefer Legion over Pierced From Within.....but....hmm, I guess PFW is the 'better' album, although it doesn't do much for me asides a couple preferred songs.

Suffocation, being from NY, essentially mixed FL type Death Metal and injected it with alot of groove found in NY Hardcore bands. So the songs aren't always blasting, and have alot of breakdown/mosh parts.



The songs on Breeding the Spawn rip, but the production is shit. They should re-record that before they do the new album. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I just bought today Pierced from Within... and Im really impressed, how the fuck did I pass out this album for so long....

I love the production, the bass can be heard clearly and it kicks so much ass....

a must buy to any metal fan

Cannibal Corpse catches alot of shit for their lyrics that haven't changed too much since Eaten back to life. (Really though, they aren't near as dumb sounding today as they were when Chris Barnes wrote them all.)

The music however has only gotten more and more technical with each release. This can't be argued. Bloodthirst and Gore Obsessed have some crazy ass guitar riffs on it, doubled by a bassplayer who is using his fingers and doing the same wide stretching, odd time riffs. They have an excellent Death metal vocalist and high endurance drummer as well, and they also choose to have great production (unlike so many other death metal bands.)

Suffocation is one the premiere American Death metal acts, along with Morbid Angel and (to me) Cannibal Corpse. My only complaint with Suffocation is With the exception of Despise the Sun and Pierced From Within, they have always lacked on the production aspect. The new song they released, Deceit, was produced pretty poorly. Hopefully, it is just a demo. (I'm not a fan of the whole "shitty prodcution" aesthetic found in Death Metal, obviously). Live, however, they earn their title of one of the Best Death Metal acts today. Absolutely Destructive Live. And even though, the production isn't great on the Human Waste, Effigy, and Breeding the Spawn, they are still great albums simply for the music that is on there.

To clarify: Yes, I'm fully aware that you don't have to have stellar production to have a great album. It's just a peeve of mine, I suppose...

This is true. The production on some of Suffocations albums have been lame. But Peirced and Despise and Effigy are exellent. They should really remaster the others and re-release them. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

For those who say production doesn't matter, you are full of shit. Even if its a great album with killer riffs, if the production sucks, it doesn't make you want to listen to it very often. To me at least.

To me, production is as important as the music itself. Thats why i'm not into tr00 Black Metal. I just can't take the treble-overdrive of the guitars and tin drums. Yeah, recording it in a bush in a frostbitten Norwegian forest adds atmosphere to the record but I sounds like shite. Gimme' some Dimmu over Darkthrone any day.

Production is very important reason why I'm such a big fan of Death Metal.
