Suggest a charity

I'm looking to give some dosh to charity before the end of the financial year. Not that I'm exactly rolling in it, but it's always to give some to a handful. Can you suggest some worthy ones that might not get as much attention as others?

I just gave some to Muscular Dystrophy Australia earlier. I read a while back about a charity set up to support Indian widows, who are often ostracised and end up living in appalling conditions. Anyone know what that might have been?

I sponsor two Indonesian kids through Plan. Not only is it a good cause, it also helps stop me from having to pay the ATO when tax return time comes around.

The only other time I've donated anything of substance was to the Red Cross for the tsunami appeal.

Nice work. Where do the kids live?

I pay for one Indonesian girl's education. She is my sister-in-law though. :)

Well since I work for a cancer charity, I would obviously suggest you donate to a cancer charity :D However, I think it's best to donate to something which has touched your life somehow *shrug* Bev regularly donates to the Dogs Trust (since we're both dog lovers) and a donkey sanctuary (hey, they're donkeys! Awesome!), and I've raised money for Everyman (male cancer charity here in the UK; also part of the charity I work for).

Whatever you donate to, good on ya! :)

yes yes :)

What Mark says really. I donate regularly to animal charities - so every month, Dogs Trust, Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, World Wildlife Fund and WSPA. Then there are the more once in a while type donations which are mostly Cancer charities of one sort or another, and again that's personal because my Dad has an incurable cancer. Those are the two big concerns for me so that's where I look to put my money. So have a think about the kind of things that bother you. I think Mark donated to Amnesty International for a while.

Yeah an animal charity would be good - I've given to WWF before. Might go an environmental one too. I made a donation to the Bone Marrow Donor Institute last night. Donating bone marrow itself sounds bloody painful, so I'd rather give them a few dollars!
