BEN AFFLECK REVEALED AS BATMAN IN WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ NEW SUPER HERO FEATURE FILM, NOW SLATED TO OPEN JULY 17, 2015

BURBANK, CA, August 22, 2013 – Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.” The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing. The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

In the announcement, Silverman stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Kroll added, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award®-winning Best Picture “Argo,” which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors. In 2010, he starred in and directed the hit crime thriller “The Town.” His recent acting work also includes “The Company Men,” “State of Play,” and “Hollywoodland,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Earlier in his career, Affleck starred in and co-wrote (with Matt Damon) “Good Will Hunting,” for which he won an Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.

The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

Production is expected to begin in 2014

Why does Quicksilver being in Avengers 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past make you mad?

wasn't pissed about the same character being in 2 different movies

was pissed about 1 character being portrayed by 2 different actors

thought maybe the studios could play nice and officially agree to share an actor/special effects team where the character kinda bridges the X-Men movie universe with the Avengers movie universe

got pissed that this didn't even come anywhere close to happening

Ben Afflek could be fine. It's the director and writer that worries me.

i kinda agree with this

partially (if not mostly) just because i absolutely totally loved the Ben Afleck Daredevil movie, (seriously, WTF is up with all the people who said it was crap??)

He must have never seen Ben Affleck in a movie if he thinks he's capable of that.

I don't care how much it costs, but Marvel seriously needs to obtain the rights to both the X-Men and Spiderman series so this shit doesn't happen.

Sue Storm and her younger brother Johnny will be different skin colors (which everyone has already known for a whole year now) and people were getting totally outraged over the idea that one of the "Storm siblings" would be adopted, and only just now Fox has just decided to go with not mentioning adoption at all and just explain away the 2 siblings being different skin colors by having the parents be different skin colors, which could have looked okay if they'd been doing that from the beginning, but deciding to have Sue and Johnny be different races and then not coming up with an explanation for it for a whole freaking year is pretty lame, and having the parents be different races is clearly pandering to the people that freaked over the idea of Sue and Johnny not being biological siblings, and since they already had a release date for a sequel before deciding against the adoption explanation, I think that the release date for the FF re-boot sequel is probably set-in-stone for Fox releasing some kind of Marvel-characters superhero movie, even if it's not Fantastic Four.

When Fox FIRST announced that FF would be getting a re-booted INSTEAD of the 3rd movie that a lot of people had been totally expecting, they're explanation was that they were doing the re-boot for the specific purpose of integrating the Fantastic Four characters into the X-Men's universe, and they didn't change their mind about this until AFTER they started thinking about letting Johnny be played by a black guy

So I think that at this point Fox really doesn't actually give a shit about trying to make an FF movie that makes the comic book dorks happy, I think that if this black Johnny storm movie sucks bad enough, Fox will be able to take the release date that they've already announced for the FF sequel and just have yet another fucking X-Men movie hit theaters that day, which, sadly, I think at this point Fox is actually kinda planing on doing

Monoxide Child is an idiot
The whole "instantly recognized sexy- as-hell chick" thing won't work with Wonder Woman, would work awesomely for Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, and it actually did work perfectly for Avengers characters Iron Man and Black Widow, but it won't work for wonder woman, the pre-Existing fan-Base for wonder woman is a different mindset than the pre-Existing fan-Base for Black Cat and Black Widow

For black cat and Black Widow, the fanbase is straight guys and lesbians who want to fuck these women, for wonder woman, the fanbase is straight women and gay guys who want to be wonder woman, totally different audience, Kate beckensale would look horrible for wonder woman, although she'd be perfect for Black Cat

Original poster was freaking psychic
Wasn't at all feeling burnout on superhero movies all the way back when this freaking thread started
but sure as hell feeling it now
10 separate superhero movies hit theaters in just 2017 alone
and all those getting sequels
