here's a quick clip with the savage...settings similar to the ones Goddamn posted:

SavageBb

even with the new tubes it's still really dark and missing some bite....much too muddy..
I think I definitely have to raise the presence quite a bit to remove that blanketed sound

will record some clips with more presence later.

Here it is with a TS and slightly different settings (less Gain, a notch less mids and depth boost on)

Yeah thats the typical Engl sound or better Engl problem.
All their amps sound great in the room, but when you track them they have this problems:

-No mids
-No bite
-strange scoop fuzz
-strange low-end but no low-mid punch

So far I recorded different Thunders and Fireballs.
I got the best results out of the old thunder

The ownder switched the tubes with some mesa ones and pushed the bios very hard. No TS

The trick is, you have to turn the Mid´s ALL THE WAY UP (not kidding!!!)
In the post you can scoop them if you want.

This always worked with the other engl´s

try it :)

And for the clip I used a Marshall vintage 4x12 with v30.

e606 on axis and sm57 off axis on the same speaker (with a 45° angle between them) both mics exactly 3cm away from the speaker and like 2cm away (on the right side) from the speaker-membran

"different Thunders and Fireballs" is quite a bit far from "all their amps"

Lasse, I've noticed all your recent clips sound sort of similar (something about the midrange). Was this the Mesa Cab? If so, are you sure everything is 100% (all the screws tight/speakers tight/best positioning)?

The only real thing wrong with the mix is the excessive subs. Some EQ work does wonders to the tone. Tried it out myself with the TS clip, only real issue was in order to get rid of the subs, the low meat was kind of dead.
