In Reaper you can just keep recording onto one track over and over and it'll separate the 'takes' or 'lanes' so you can see all of them stacked on top of each other, then you split phrases or words apart and comp those that are the best. Done. You may have to crossfade as the person goes from one word to another and you needed to splice two diff takes together, usually if it's in the middle of a phrase or something.

In cubase the lanes are good except that I don't know how to set a defined track height or something because if you record a vocal a phrase or two at a time it will make a new lane each time you record a new take of that phrase so the track will just get bigger and bigger and its annoying

Unless I'm missing something obvious which is probably the case. I miss reaper

after you do the comping just hide the lanes.

I don't know how to set a defined track height

have you tried pressing "z"? Makes it large as fuck.
