I was listening to some live performences by Symphony X. And it totally kicked ass. But I couldn't help noticing (not to be bitching around on my first post:) ) that their live "choir" capabilities realy sucks. They are way of pitched. And the endings on Evolution is just tragically live, almost comic. You can see by the face of russel that he thinks it's abit funny too, I think.:p

What say you guys?

Welcome to the forum. I thought you were talking about Cardhago's actual arrangements for choir at first.

It doesn't really bother me - Symphony X are a metal band first and foremost, and a choir somewhere a little way behind that. I'd also question whether their budget would allow for anything more impressive at this stage in their career.

I thought the same thing as him.^

But I don't think they do too bad live with the vocal harmonies. When I saw them in August, everything was perfect and flawless. Evolution, Sins n Shadows, I saw nothing wrong with their performance.

The music is perfect, nothing out of pitch or anything like that. And live, well shit, They did the Odyssey perfectly, all 24 min of it, which is above and beyond what most band are capable of, even in studio.

Well... they could use some studio samples, but the drums would have to be in sync with the triggers... something like Rhapsody does in their live performances...

That wouldn't be too hard, Rullo would just need to have a click to play to to keep it synched up.

Just occurred to me how freaking annoying that clicking sound should be, after 1 1/2 hour show... :D as a second thought, it's best if SX plays the way they're already doin'...

Some of their earlier stuff sounds a bit off. For example, there is one live vid of them doin evolution which is kinda off, and then another newer one of king of terrors (on youtube). There is a huge difference. Both the vocals and performace have improved heaps. I think russ might be a bit more fit now, which would probably help cos when you get into it on stage u lose your breath and things start to stuff up.

yeah, I'm not here for butching SX Live shows (who am I to do?). It's just that I think it's funny. Listen to the last chorus on Evolution (where it's modulates) on Live on the edge of Forever (not to discuss bootlegs :Saint: ) That is maybee a poor example, couse they are not off pitch, but just untaight with their fistl/falseth's.

Oh I would love hearing them do The Oddessey Live! Do they play the Overture? (In that case, pinella must have a hell of a job)

well the audience wouldn't hear it of course ;). Its really common. Ever see a drummer wear headphones on stage? What do you think he's listening to, his ipod?

you can't trust vids on yourtube, a lot of vids have video/audio timing issues for some odd reason.
I watched a video of Eagleheart by Stratovarius on Youtube, and the audio was like a full 4 seconds off from the video. The song starts when Jorg Michael hits the bass drum, and in the video, you see him hit the bass drum and everyone starts playing, but a full 4 seconds later, you hear music. It's rediculous.

yeah, theVikingR said that he tought that's what this was. It made me wanna do Divine Wings with a full orchestra.
