Hi guys,

Here's my humble attempt at a song from this phenomenal band. After a long wait since 97', I've only gotten to see them live for the first time this year in Bangkok and they were just simply amazing.

Needless to say, the urge to do this cover was truly immense and I hope I did them some justice.

Please let me know how it sounds on your end and I'll make some final tweaks.

Thanks.

man, i'm impressed with anyone that can even attempt covering a symphony x song! this sounds like it's a faster tempo than the original as well, is it? also cool how you threw in the serpents kiss at the end.

main thing is mix wise, i'd try cleaning up the bass guitar, it sounds like it's making the mix to sound a bit muddy. eqing out 250-500hz could help. good guitar tone and good sounding drums, i might bring the cymbals down a little bit though.

That was better than I expected to be honest. I do hear some sloppiness on the fast parts and solos though. Not that is easy to play them of course, I know I can't. I liked the way you played the vocal melodies with the guitar.
Nice drum programming too.

Wow this is fuckin killer...great job. I love Symphony X! I love how you solo'd all the vocal melodies, thats awesome.

Awesome ! That`s pretty close to the original and I love how you made the vocals with the guitar.
Soundwise I wouldn`t touch the cymbals, sounds fine to me.

I noticed the snippet from Serpent`s kiss at the end..full song please ;)

The album version is running at 150bpm. But 'live', the band plays it at 160 or so.

The end is actually a Serpent's Kiss and Walls of Babylon riff put together. Thought they worked alright since its always the same D, E, F notes. :)

Bass is always my weakest. I attenuated the highs actually, probably shld put it back. Will try your suggestion and eq out those frequencies.

Thx for the feedback.

more info on the recording please. What was used on bass and clean guitars

Edit: Geezzz...how long did it take you to learn/record all of this

Stingray 5 --> Sansamp RPM --> Really Nice Compressor (just to control peaks)

Its my first attempt at cleans, didnt know what to expect actually. It did get go thru a UAD 1176.

It took me to the 'edge of forever' to finish this project. :Smug: A couple of months to get the solos about right cos I'm not a speed player. And about 2 weeks on and off to track all the instruments.

Thanks bud.
