Symphony X: Trouble in Paradise

You're completely missing the point. The fact that it looks that way has nothing to do with it sounding that way. There are GREAT sounding masters that look the same.

I don't think anyone is saying that it does not sound great. I think it sounds great myself, but like a few others here, I can only listen to about half of the album at a time before I'm reaching for something else. This over-compression idea might be the reason for that.

No again, missing the point. I'm not even saying that PL sounds great, I'm just saying in general, just because it looks a certain way, has almost nothing to do with how it sounds honestly.

Funny, because this album has really grown on me...I enjoy it more with each listen. I'm used to listening to crap quality sound commuting 70 miles each way and having a bad stereo mixed with tons of road noise.

Thankfully I haven't noticed listening fatigue with PL, though I haven't listened to it in a while...hmm ;)

Hey Jeremy, do you think you could do me a huge favor and remix/remaster Iron Maiden's Dance Of Death...I frickin LOVE that album, but the flat, lifeless production almost ruins it...not sure what Kevin Shirley was thinking. Let me know what your price is :D

If you're cracking a joke at me that's pretty feeble.

but yea, I would have loved to take a crack at that record, seriously. That guy is the worst thing that's happened to that band.

Welcome to 2007. It's a mastering thing as many have said before. But why would you be complaining about audio quality when you listen to the album on your iPod :erk: of all things, in mp3 format? Hypocrisy?

JDub, Vapor Trails has issues but I still love that album, and there are far worse mastering examples I can think of.

As for PL, I think it sounds fine. It's the best produced SX album yet. Perhaps the original poster just isn't into slammin' metal for the entire record.

no joke AT you, I'm simply venting my frustration at great albums ruined by horrible production. But I'm glad to hear you agree with me in this instance...Shirley needs to go :)

i have been unable to STOP listening to this album all the way through since i bought it. the first two weeks i had it, it was the only thing i wanted to listen to front to back... and when it ended i started it over. guess what, i still listen to it about 3 -5 times a week all the way through. i may be a freak by these standards but i guess i like being auraly fatigued, hahahah.

really cool point though. i think that the fact that it is like that isn't in the volumes but the layers of instrumentation. yes it is loud but, you could just as easily turn your damn volume down and come out the other end alive..... i still turn it up as loud as possible.
